Nestled among spruce and fir trees with water on two sides and over 185 feet of frontage, this home provides access to all the best that DownEast Maine has to offer. Whether you're kayaking on the bay, bicycling on any number of local bike paths, or hiking one of the spectacular ocean trails, this is a perfect place where you can relax and unwind. Enjoy the view from the wraparound deck or down on the rocks by the water's edge. The space Appropriately named "Sunset Point", this cottage is located on a private drive on Goods Point in Steuben. Nearby you can explore beautiful McClellan Park in Milbridge, or hike the trails on Pigeon Hill or in the Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge. Just 20 minutes away is the absolute "must see" of Acadia National Park's Schoodic Point with it's spectacular granite cliffs and large crashing surf. The park has walking and bike trails and is much less crowded than the larger and more well known park on Mt. Desert Island. Driving back you can visit the picturesque villages of Corea and Winter Harbor. If you are willing to go for a drive, head north 1 1/2 hours and hike the Bold Coast Trails in Cutler with their majestic and panoramic views, and then visit the West Quoddy Head lighthouse in Quoddy Head State Park (look for whales...) If you bring your passport you can drive into Canada and visit the summer home of President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Campobello Island. If you prefer a more touristy area than drive one hour south to Bar Harbor and explore the wonders of Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island. Guest access The entire house and property are yours to enjoy. The cottage was rebuilt from the ground up in 2016 and everything inside is new! In the fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances you can steam your own lobsters in our pot, or grill steaks on the gas grill on the deck. The living area including the dining room and kitchen, are open with a cathedral ceiling and wall to wall picture windows to maximize the view. Two doors lead you onto the deck with a full complement of deck furniture and (2) bar height tables with chairs. Additional amenities include a stackable washer and dryer. Every room has a ceiling fan (including all three bedrooms) which will keep you cool while watching the 42" HDTV with blue ray DVD and DISH satellite service. The cottage also has high speed WIFI. Other things to note If you bring kayaks you can launch them from our private cove next to the cottage to explore Dyer Bay and Fish Island. Then paddle around the bend to see if bald eagles are perched in their nest. From the deck or on the rocks you can watch lobster boats work their traps in the bay and then anchor their boats for the night, right in front of the cottage. After a lobster dinner sit by a campfire on the rocks and wait for the glorious sunset! Before heading up, lie back and gaze into the night sky to see an incredible sight of endless stars, the milky way and more than a few shooting stars and passing satellites. We hope you will love it as much as we do! We provide a firepit down on the rocks for you to enjoy. There is plenty of firewood stacked against the fence behind our cottage and there is an abundance of kindling at your disposal on the property. We would please ask you to follow the following guidelines when using the firepit: * Do not leave the fire unattended. * Do not use accelerants (e.g. gasoline) * Do not throw trash or non-combustible materials into the pit. * Ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving it or checking out. Occasionally at high tide the waters will extinguish a fire and "move" the rocks around. You may have to reposition them to "rebuild" the firepit.
