From Long Sands Beach in York, to the legendary Ogunquit Beach, to the beaches of Wells, Kennebunk, Old Orchard Beach and Portland, you’ll find great surfing waves. You will also find kayak surfing to be a new way to enjoy riding waves. Kayaking: The kayaking possibilities in Southern Maine are endless. You can rent a kayak, take a scenic tour with a guide, you can even arrange for a several days long kayak adventure. (southernmainekayaks com) Mountain Biking: You can connect with the vast Mt. Gunstock is an easy 50-mile road trip. This ride will take you along Lake Winnipesaukee’s shore line, the largest lake in the state of New Hampshire: check the web site for hours of operation (gunstock com). (If you stay with us in the off season you can surf in the morning and ski/snowboard in the afternoon.) If you want to go further, Mount Washington, the highest point in the northeastern United States at 6,288 ft. and the most prominent mountain east of the Mississippi River, is 90 miles away (mountwashington org). Mt. Washington Valley area is great place for all sorts of mountain adventure activities a list to long to compile. My wife Janna and I both grew up in the mid-west. I moved to New England in the 60s and Janna moved to New England in the 70s. We met via windsurfing (spent a decade in the industry) and moved to Maine to be close to both the ocean and the mountains. We are a surfing and skiing/snowboarding family, among other ocean and mountain sports. We have operated a home business out of this house for 20 years. We are 1 mile from the Wells line, 3 miles from the York line, 4 miles from the Ogunquit line, and 6 miles from Ogunquit Beach. The State of Maine is larger than the other 5 New England states combined, 17 million acres, with 6,000 lakes and ponds.” ROAD TRIPS: Going south, Ogunquit main beach, Shore Road to Israel Head Road, to the little lighthouse (local surf spot), on to Perkins Cove, then drive south on Shore Road to Cape Neddick Beach then York Short Sands, out to Nubble Lighthouse along York Long Sands on Rt. 1A to York Harbor, then on to Rt. 103 to Kittery then back on Rt. 1A to Badger’s Island over the Memorial Bridge to Portsmouth, NH and stay on Rt. 1A to Rye Harbor, NH. Gunstock is an easy 50-mile road trip: check the web site for hours of operation (gunstock.com).
