Wake up to stunning views of the Hudson River in this huge, immaculately clean, & beautifully designed historic home. Welcome to Sparrow House, our one-of-a-kind 1859 Gothic Victorian in the Hudson Valley. Only 80 minutes from NYC, 19 minutes away from the Beacon stop on the Hudson line/Metro-North, and 13 minutes from the Salisbury Mills/Cornwall Stop on the Port Jervis line/NJ Transit. The house is spacious, has exquisite light, and river and mountain views from nearly every room. ***WE WANT TO LET OUR GUESTS KNOW THAT CLEANLINESS IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE AT SPARROW HOUSE NY. SPARROW HOUSE NY IS ALWAYS CLEANED A MINIMUM OF 5 HOURS BETWEEN GUESTS TO ENSURE THE SPACE IS DISINFECTED AND HYGIENIC. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR CLEANING METHODS! WE ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO ENSURE OUR GUESTS FEEL SAFE AND AT-HOME!*** Sparrow House sits on 2 acres of lush property with stunning waterfront views, and is conveniently located near the Storm King Art Center, West Point, Breakneck Ridge, Bannerman Castle, hiking trails at Black Rock Forest, and Storm King Mountain. A short drive to Beacon and the Dia Museum, orchards and wineries. Sparrow House was built by Captain Leonard P. Clark in the 1850s along with many of the surrounding cottages (and even a Bowling Alley!) along River Avenue. Captain Clark was a shipbuilder who built and rented schooners for guests summering in Cornwall-on-Hudson but he lived at Sparrow House with his wife and two daughters. The house now functions as a space for creative retreat, exploration and community. We host many writers, musicians, artists, filmmakers and nature lovers; the serene landscape has been a repeated draw for many. The house is mysterious, romantic and full of character. Suitable for large groups or small. We find happiness, music, storytelling and tranquility here and we hope you will too. This listing is for the full house (with 2 private entrances) of a massive, three-story Gothic Victorian and comes complete with 5 bedrooms, 3 additional sleeping areas and 2 large bathrooms, one with a clawfoot tub. The house is well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a fully equipped kitchen, several coffee brewing options, Beekman 1802 bath products, green/all-natural cleaning products, a record player, board games, books and internet-enabled TV and screening room. Note that this listing can hold up to 12 people. Please contact me if your listing is above this number. We require booking our other listing, The Nest Studio for parties above 12, or for parties requiring 7 separate beds, and we can discuss on a case-by-case basis. (We block The Nest off on weekends to reserve for larger parties, so if it appears booked, it is actually available!) ***PLEASE NOTE: We are in the process of restoring a vintage Airstream on the edge of the property and split our time between NYC and the Airstream. The full house and yard is completely private to our guests (not shared spaces), but you might see me feeding the hens or watering the gardens early in the morning. I'm completely at your disposal should you need anything at all! You are a quick 12-minute Lyft/Uber ride from the Salisbury Mills/Cornwall Station, or a 19-minute Lyft/Uber ride to the Beacon Metro-North train station, and all the restaurants and museums along quaint Beacon’s Main Street. There is also parking for numerous vehicles. The house was designed as an artists' retreat; a quiet place to imagine and create. Original Victorian design and antique pieces live next to the all the modern amenities you could ask for. Each of the bedrooms is decorated to provide guests with their own unique experience. The home includes: -A cozy living room with a 50" TV. Feel free to watch any DVD from our library of films, documentaries and TV shows or enjoy Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo and other streaming services. -Full, modern kitchen outfitted for making whatever you like (yes, there's a dishwasher!) with a large dining area. -Five bedrooms, one Queen pull out sofa, 2 couches and an air mattress in the loft. -Bathroom: 2 bathrooms, one with a claw foot, soaking tub and one with a large, walk-in shower. - Bath Products by Beekman 1802, Avalon Organics and Turkish towels by Olive and Linen. - A Screening Room complete with a full-wall movie projector for Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo, and other streaming services. -There is a washer/dryer that may be used by guests staying at least 1 week. -Unbeatable river-front location, creating a quiet nature-filled retreat, close to all the best spots in the area. -Tivoli Radios in every bedroom. -Blazing fast Wi-Fi Internet. -Touchpad smart lock for keyless entry and effortless check-in and coming-and-going. The Bedrooms: Each of the bedrooms is lightly themed and decorated to provide a different immersive experience. -"The Map Room” (Queen) -"The Woodlands Room" (Full) -"The 80s Room" (Full) -“The Film Noir Room” (Queen) -“The Loft” (Queen) - "The Library" (Queen sofa bed, adjoins "The Map Room") - "The Screening Room" (Sectional Sofa/Air mattress) Please be respectful of our home and our belongings. A lot of time and effort has been made to restore this historic home and make it a comfortable space. We hope to be able to share it for a long time! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? A: Nope! We provide these for all guests and include hotel-size toiletries. Q: How will I receive the key and how many keys will I get? A: The house features a keyless entry system with a code that lasts as long as your stay. This allows for effortless check-in and entry for your entire party. Q: Is there Central AC through the Nest thermostats? A: No. Central AC is not included on the list of amenities. There are window AC units installed during summer months (June-August) only. Q: Where are the paper towels? A: We strive to make Sparrow House NY as sustainable and green as possible! We provide one roll of paper towels in the kitchen, and supplement with reusable cleaning cloths under the sink. Doing our part to eliminate unnecessary plastic and paper waste! Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and we take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Q: What is that sound when I flush the toilet or run water in the 1st floor bathroom? A: The brand-new bathroom on the 1st floor runs on a pump system (the only way to add a ground-level bath in this 1850s home!) As a result, please make sure to only put toilet paper in the toilet. All other objects (tampons, q-tips, tissues, wet-wipes, paper towels etc...MUST be thrown away in the trash. Any pump clogs due to flushed will be billed to the guest.) Q: Is the washer and dryer available to guests? A: The laundry room is available to guests who book one week or more. Q: Do we need to feed the chickens? A: The Goldhen Girls live in a coop attached to the vegetable garden. If staying longer than 2 nights, we appreciate your help refilling their water container if you notice it is low. Their 5 gallon feeder will always have enough food so no need to worry about that! Their eggs are yours during the duration of your stay - we provide farm-fresh eggs for all our guests! Q: Do children and babies count as guests? A: Yes. Please enter infants as "children" and NOT "infants" if Airbnb gives you the option to specify (this seems to only pop up for some users). The party size needs to be registered with our insurance company and children definitely count as people to insurance. Also, please understand that all listed "extra person" charges are a function of the increased cost to insure larger parties, including children and infants. Q: Do you permit pets? A: We are happy to announce we now welcome pets (cats and dogs) during your stay! We so appreciate our guests ensuring Sparrow House and The Nest is clean for future guests to enjoy. Please note excess hair, chewed/damaged items or soiling will incur additional $250 cleaning fee billed by the housekeeping team and the cost to replace the soiled / damaged items. Q: Can we check in early or check out late? A: Unfortunately, due to the increased interest, early check-in and late check-out are not possible. We need a dedicated number of hours to clean the house and have listed our check-in and check-out times to ensure we have enough time. If you would like to arrive earlier than 4pm, please book the day before, and if you'd like to check out later, please book an additional day on the back end. Q: I am looking for a last-minute stay. Can I make a same-day booking? A: If you're looking for a same-day booking and the place is free, please inquire and we'll try! It depends on whether our cleaning crew can accommodate last minute, which isn't a sure thing. For same-day bookings, check-in may also have to be later than the listed time in order to make sure the place is ready. Still, can't hurt to ask! Q: What's my total booking price? A: With fees included, Airbnb only shows the guest, and not the host, the total cost. This figure should be present after you enter your dates. Note that, pricing varies on a daily basis, and Airbnb uses their own algorithm to adjust it automatically, so we don't control it. You will have use of the entirety of the house except the 3rd floor closets and the back room studio (off the kitchen): this includes the kitchen, living room, 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a library/office and screening room. We ask that you do not access the following spaces during your stay: - The back room to the right of the 1st floor bathroom - The locked closets located on the 3rd floor - The attic There is a keyless entry system, for effortless check-in and coming-and-going. You're going to love it here! If you need anything at all—help finding something, questions about appliances, need help getting the movie projector or speakers working, or simply looking for a good place to get something to eat—shoot me a text or give me a call anytime! Note that, for your safety, security cameras monitor all exits. And seriously: If you're planning a rager with people beyond the folks listed on the reservation, PLEASE DON'T BOOK. Cornwall-on-Hudson is a historic, river-front village 50 miles north of NYC. Just an 8 minute drive from Storm King State Park and West Point, and 19 minutes from Beacon, there are a variety of activities nearby. Lyft and Uber have arrived in Orange County! Zipcar is also available at the Beacon train stop if you are in need of short-term car rental. - NO COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEO/FILM SHOOTS WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL, PRODUCTION INSURANCE & A SIGNED CONTRACT. If you are a filmmaker, photographer or location scout interested in the house for a shoot, please find the Sparrow House NY website on your favorite search engine to book that service. Airbnb bookings are for vacation rental/sleeping accommodations ONLY. By booking on Airbnb, guests agree that violation of this rule shall be subject to an additional fee of at least the cost of the total booking per day for use of this service without prior approval. -Sparrow House is home to 12 sweet chickens which means farm fresh eggs for all our guests. The Goldhen Girls are very popular with families with children - please let me know if you would like a personalized workshop on how I care for them/gather the eggs! - We do not accommodate the charging of electric vehicles. The house was built in the 1850s and cannot handle charging cars. If you have an electric car, we are more than happy to help you find a local charging station nearby. 100% of that month's electric bill will be charged to the guest if this rule is violated. -During peak season, Fri-Sun stays may be required to rent the full house. During peak season weekends, minimum stays may be longer than two nights as well. -About check-in times: If your arrival is on the same day as a check-out, there's a slight chance our cleaner may be putting the finishing touches on when you arrive, so we just ask that guests be understanding as she's trying hard to do a lot in a short window of time.
