The Old Forge - an "Heritage" house.

A chance to return to days of old and family times. Experience staying in one of Fairlie’s oldest houses! Built in the 1880s, the house is quaint, rustic, warm and full of character. Put your feet up, relax, unplug from the modern world and feel your troubles melt away. Go for a swim in the Opihi River if the weather is nice or if the weather isn't so great, light the fire and relax with movies, books, and board games to provide entertainment. The space The Old Forge is one of the oldest homes in Fairlie. It has the original exterior from when it was built, and comes with its fair share of quirks. Don’t be surprised if you find a squeaky floor board or two – it’s part of the charm! You will find some historic items in the house, such as an old butter churn and horse brasses around the fireplace in the lounge. On sunny days, you will love sitting outside in the sheltered garden at the side of the house. Bring a book and enjoy the nice weather! If the weather is a bit chilly, there are fireplaces in the lounge and kitchen for you to get the place nice and toasty. We’ve also provided board games and although there is no TV we have a selection of movies on DVD for you to watch when you can’t get outside. The house is on a quarter acre of land, so there is plenty of room to run around the house. There is a sheltered court yard which is just perfect for sitting in the sun or eating outside. Guest access You will have the house and large section to yourself! The property is suitable for both adults and children. You can park your car off the road or in the drive. Other things to note Breakfast is not supplied, however there is tea and coffee and we recommend trying out some of the local cafes for breakfast when you are staying in the Old Forge – the Fairlie Bakehouse has some of the best pies in New Zealand! The local Four Square will likely have everything you need for your own meals during your stay. Ultra fast WiFi broadband is provided for you with unlimited use.
