Cozy Cottage in the Mad River Valley
Cozy Cottage in the Mad River Valley
Description
My dad and I built this home from 2015-2019 working mostly on the weekends. We did everything we could ourselves including all the framing, siding, and fine woodworking. It has abundant natural and artificial light and a beautiful deck/porch. We made sure to build a lot of storage space with built in closets, cabinets, and drawers. I am very proud of what we accomplished and I'm so excited to be able to share our creation with guests. The space In the winter months (Dec-Feb) there is a good chance you will NEED to use the wood stove. Wood stoves are great but they are a bit of work. I have all the wood, kindling and paper you need but you will have to be able to bring it up a steep set of stairs. Detailed directions for the wood stove are provided. The house also has an electric heat pump. It works great for the spring and fall and as a supplement to the wood stove in the winter. When it gets below 10F or so the heat pump becomes less efficient and the wood stove becomes necessary to keep the house warm. It can also do A/C for hot days in the summer. Guest access All of it. Other things to note The private road I live on is not very long but it is steep. If you are staying in the winter months you will NEED a vehicle w/ AWD and snow or all season tires.(Performance tires don't work in cold weather.) If your vehicle can't make it up my private road you will have to park at the bottom and walk about 150 yards up the hill.
