Villa in Pont Royal Golf & Country Club, Mallemort, Bouches Du Rhone, Provence
This bijoux villa is situated within the domaine of the world renowned championship golf course of Pont Royal, halfway between Avignon and Aix-en-Provence. The villa itself is situated on the private domaine of 180 hectares on top of a hill in the heart of Provence. The pretty village is just a short walk with its restaurants, shops, and bars. Adjacent is the Pierre & Vacance village which includes playgrounds, volleyball, tennis, mini golf, wave pool and water slides for a nominal daily charge. The space THE VILLAGE: You can walk to the village/golf club house in 10 minutes. With your back to the patio at the back of the house turn right down the hill until you reach a narrow tarmac path on the left signposted to the village (Centre Village). Follow this path until you reach a road. Turn right here and follow the road round a bend until you come to another small uphill tarmacadam path on the right. Go up this path and you will find yourself on the edge of the village lake. Follow this to the right, (passing one of the Pierre & Vacances pools) until the wide steps into the village. Alternatively, re-trace the way you drove to the house and take the 2nd exit off the large roundabout (i.e. straight ahead). There is a large car park on the right hand side where you can park as the village is pedestrian only. On exiting the car park by foot, turn right, go past a handful of restricted time parking spaces and take the steps up on the right hand side into the village. Within the village, there are some bars/restaurants, all of which you can either go to for a drink, a snack or of course either full luncheon or dinner: •Cafe des Arts: This is the largest indoor/outdoor bar area and is ideal for sitting outside overlooking the lake with your drink. They offer a ‘tapas’ style menu – excellent, and good value! •La Farigoule: This restaurant has fantastic (and large!) pizzas, plus steaks, salads and fish dishes which are also excellent and good value. •Le Karoo/ Les Pins: Open July/August only, this Barbeque style restaurant is situated overlooking the ‘wave pool.’ They offer a set charge for lunch 12h00-14h00 (changeable prices). Dinner is from 19h00-22.00. They offer a hot/cold buffet, plus a variety of dishes cooked on the barbeque and deserts. (Please note that this restaurant may change from season to season.) •Golf club Es Beau La Vie: The restaurant in the golf club offers fine dining in a lovely restaurant. •Les Tilleuls: At the head of the main square, this restaurant offers ‘Cuisine Provencal’ and again, also has excellent food and set price menus. •Bar a Vin. In the main square in the top corner. Lots of large wine barrels outside, so you can’t miss it. Excellent little bar for al fresco drinks/canapés. It is also a really good wine shop with an excellent choice of locally produced wines/beers. You can simply go for a drink, or check out the wine tasting evenings they have, where, for a small charge you can sample a range of wines, with complimentary snacks to go with the wines – excellent!. The bars and restaurants close at around 11pm, and table bookings are recommended, especially in the months of July/August. Also in the village, you will find a delicatessen/grocery, (the end shop in the square next to where the restaurants are) where you can buy your fresh baguettes/croissants every morning from 8am. The shop stocks a whole range of goods/supplies. It closes between 12-4pm and then opens until 7pm in the evening. There is also a general & gift shop/newsagent next to the grocery and another Provencal type gift shop located beside the Pierre & Vacances reception. There are a number of sports available (payable locally to Pierre & Vacances) – Golf, and Golf practice area, Driving range, Horse Riding at Cap Rando, Bike Hire, Tennis, Pedal boats, Quad Bikes. Please see the signs throughout the village for these or ask at PV reception. In the main square, there is a Tourist Information office, where you will find an excellent supply of information booklets of both Pont Royal and the surrounding area(s). You will also find a small number of leaflets on various nearby attractions on the bookshelf in the villa. As with most shops/offices in France, the tourist office closes for a couple of hours in the middle of the day so it’s best to investigate these in the morning before 12pm. Market days are on Mondays and Thursdays, scattered throughout the village. The numerous, colourful stalls, offer all types of fresh food produce, gifts, clothing etc. It’s a great atmosphere – especially on Thursdays where the market is larger, and more comprehensive than Mondays. It is also open on Monday evenings until approx 10p.m. Guest access The cupboard beside the fridge is a storage area for cleaning supplies, etc and is locked. This area is not accessible. Other things to note If going to the beach it is always advisable to go early particularly during the Summer months as traffic congestion and parking can often be a problem.
