Description

Chuquiragua Loft is a boutique-style home-base for couples, solo adventurers, friends, and business travelers who appreciate designer touches and comfortable, modern amenities for short and long term stays. HIGHLIGHTS: -Central location -Traditional colonial accents -Spectacular views -Cozy fireplace -High-speed WiFi -Safe & private Chuquiragua is one of six private apartments within a beautifully restored 100-year-old colonial home, located just a five-minute walk from Quito Centro Historico The space Loft Chuquiragua, named after a beautiful orange flower native to the Ecuadorian Andes, is a spacious and independent loft apartment within Casa LunaLoma (The MoonHill House), located in the heart of the classic barrio (district) La Loma Grande, a colorful residential neighborhood adjacent to Quito Centro Historico. From our house, you have a beautiful, unobstructed view of our city’s most iconic landmark—the beloved statue of La Virgen de Quito. Each apartment within Casa LunaLoma has its own personality and charm, but all exude warmth. Loft Chuquiragua is 850 square feet, spacious enough for two travelers, located on the first floor of Casa LunaLoma. It is a great place for those looking for an immersive cultural experience whether exploring Quito's surroundings or you’re nearing the end of your travels through Ecuador and need a place to rest and restore. DINING / LIVING ROOM Loft Chuquiragua delicately balances modern with traditional. As you first enter the loft, you will be greeted by a cozy dining room and living room. The dining room is perfect for intimate breakfasts and dinners, and it can accommodate up to four people (photo only shows two chairs, but two more are available in the unit). When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by some goodies which we always provide to our guests, to include: medium size bottles of water, local Ecuadorian ground coffee, tea, and crackers. The adjacent living room has a set of cushioned wicker chairs great for relaxing after a day of exploring the city. We also have a fireplace which warms up the space. A batch of firewood is included, and more is available for purchase. Experience the spirit of Quito Centro Historico by listening to our unique collection of original Quiteño music on the record player (or create your own vibe, as the record player also works as a Bluetooth speaker). Throughout the house there is access to reliable 20mbps internet, and the smart TV allows you to connect to your preferred streaming platforms. Both spaces are beautifully lit by one of the most striking and favorite features of the unit—its windows. As our building is almost 100 years old, the thickness of the walls is very deep, and so are the windows. We have two unique windows: a horizontal panoramic, deep-inset window with a beautiful view of Quito Centro Historico as well as a vertical window which perfectly frames La Virgen de Quito. This narrow window travels upward to our upper loft—a design element we love. KITCHEN Across from our living room is a light-filled kitchen which faces the shared courtyard and water fountain. The morning light is lovely! The kitchen has ample storage and is fully functional with a fridge, electric stove, microwave, and all the essentials for meal preparation needed for short and long term stays. Whether you are just prepping your morning coffee or if you want to cook a full meal. Many of our guests purchase items from the local tienditas (mini-markets) to prepare their meals. Our unit also comes with a washer and dryer, convenient for long term guests. BEDROOM LOFT Beautifully crafted wooden stairs lead up to the loft. The upstairs loft has a lovely traditional colonial window that faces the front of the house and fills the room with great light. Adorning a very comfortable king-size mattress, you’ll find hotel-quality cotton bedding; the down comforters were specifically selected for their thickness to keep you warm during those chilly Quito nights. Should you need additional warmth, the loft is equipped with a space heaters and extra blankets. The bedroom also has plenty of storage along the sides of the bed and in a built-in closet. You will also find a built-in desk, making it very functional and practical for those needing to focus on work. SHARED SPACES During your stay, you will have access to the shared courtyard of Casa LunaLoma, which has a colonial-style water fountain in the center, hanging ferns, geraniums, and a bench where you can enjoy the space. A horizontal, deep inset window perfectly frames a panoramic view of Quito Centro Historico, El Panecillo, and La Virgen de Quito. Casa LunaLoma also has a small, shared terrace on the third floor that overlooks El Panecillo. SAFETY Our house is very safe, to include all shared outdoor areas. There is a double door main entrance to the house, and each apartment has its own private entrance. For your safety, cameras are located on the exterior of the home as well as the interior shared spaces. The neighborhood is relatively safe, yet please note it is still up and coming and it is not the gentrified part of Quito, which is what gives it its unique character and what makes it an immersive cultural experience. We always advise all our guests to remain vigilant when walking within any area of Quito Centro Historico and to always choose taxi services in the evenings. Our local host, Esteban, is readily available for support throughout your stay. Overall, Loft Chuquiragua is a beautifully curated apartment and it’s perfect if you are looking for a home away from home, central to all that Quito Centro Historico has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you into our home and helping to make your visit to Ecuador a memorable one. Bienvenido! _________________________________________ IMPORTANT NOTE Due to COVID-19, we have implemented safety regulations for check-in, as required by Ecuadorian health authorities. Please see the “Other things to note” section below for more information. Guest access The best way to get to the apartment is via taxi. When first arriving, we recommend using one of our vetted taxi drivers who will welcome you at the airport. Once in the city, taxi or Uber is the best way to get around Quito in general, particularly in the evenings. We are also very near a trolley station stop (800m) and buses. Our guests normally do not drive to our location as Quito Centro Historico is hard to drive through with old narrow roads and high traffic, yet we do have a garage parking available within the house for an additional cost. There is also a local parking garage close by that we recommend. Other things to note CHECK-IN Guest must present their passport. Guests must wear masks during check-in and within shared areas. LATE CHECK-IN We offer late check-in if needed. Most flights arriving from the US to Quito come in at midnight. Please be aware that if your flight arrives at midnight, we require that your check-in day is the previous day. TAXI PICK-UP We offer reliable taxi pick up service recommendations. This is a separate charge payable directly to the driver. SAFETY The neighborhood is relatively safe, yet please note it is still up and coming and it is not the gentrified part of Quito, which is what gives it its unique character and provides a special immersive cultural experience. We always advise all our guests to remain vigilant when walking within any area of Quito Centro Historico and to always choose the usage of taxi services in the evenings. There is a double door main entrance to the house, and each apartment has its own private entrance. For your safety, cameras are located on the exterior of the home as well as the interior shared spaces. COURTESY LUGGAGE STORAGE For our guests who will be traveling through Ecuador but want a home-base, we will gladly store your luggage for free as a courtesy if you have another reservation with us upon your return. LAUNDRY In addition to the private washer/dryer in El Panecillo, there is a shared washer/dryer available free of charge. CITY SOUNDS Though Barrio La Loma Grande is relatively quiet and is not within the hustle/bustle of Quito Centro Historico, you may occasionally hear the local sounds of daily commerce, such as the gas man driving by selling his gas tanks over the loudspeaker! CLEANING For our guests with longer stays, we have cleaning services available for an extra fee. TRAVELING IN GROUPS If you are traveling with a larger group and are looking for additional apartments where you can be together, yet also have some independence, check out our other apartments within Casa LunaLoma. LONG TERM RENTAL For long-term rentals over 15 days, a cleaning service of $15 for the apartment is required. This includes change of linen. This is payable by guest.
