Large bedroom in historic 1828 Dobbs Ferry home.
This is the main and largest of the 3 bedrooms. My sons use it when they are home which is not often. So some of their personal stuff is still in it. There is a chest of drawers to use and some space in the closet to hang clothes. There is also a decent sized desk, with most drawers available. *Note: I have one long haired cat - if you are allergic, maybe not a good choice for you. Parking for 2 cars when available. I do not own a cell phone so do not expect an immediate response. The space A charming Cape-Cod style cottage, known as "The Little Red House" - is listed as the oldest house in Dobbs Ferry. Of the 3 bedrooms, this listed bedroom is the largest. It has 2 twin beds, a chest of drawers, a desk and a closet. The room has 3 windows, and a sloping ceiling. It has a very charming old farmhouse feel style, with rough painted yellow walls. There is no A/C but I do have fans. Some belongings of my sons are still in the room as they come home from time to time to visit, so the closet and drawers of the main desk still have some stuff in them. The bathroom which is on the same floor is shared. Another smaller cosy bedroom with a single twin bed is also available on the same floor with closet, chest of drawers and a working desk. Check out my other listing, "Small Cosy Room in historic 1828 Dobbs Ferry home" And yet a 3rd much smaller "red" room is also available although it has no door. Guest access The guest is welcome to use the whole house which is shared between me and my grown up twin sons when they are home which is not that often. The house has a small galley kitchen, a dining room and a living room. Kitchen privileges are use of fridge to store items, microwave, tea and coffee making and light use of the stove. Use of the washer and dryer is for guests who stay one week or more. There is a lovely back patio along with a grill and a picnic table under a green canopy that looks across a small back garden. The house has a small front porch for sitting, and boasts an English garden bursting with flowers in the spring and early summer. BIKE TOURS I have 2 bicycles. Rent a bike for the day at $40 each and bike along "The Old Croton Acqueduct". Bike passes for the train are included. Each bike has a rack with attached bag to store your lunch and belongings. The OCA is a beautiful car-free wooded dirt path that runs through all the river towns. From Dobbs Ferry it runs 19 miles north and ends up at the magnificent Croton Dam. This is a spectacular one whole day adventure, with lots of things to stop and look at along the way including the Lyndhurst mansion, the bike path running right through the middle of it. Towards the end of the trail, a little ways below the dam there is a steep path that leads you down to the river where there is a great swimming hole. The river is deep and slow here and you can jump off rocks into the slow moving water. To do this ride you need to be reasonably fit as there are a couple of areas where you have to scramble a little bit. On the way, in Ossining there are some wonderful local Equadorian eating joints. Right below the Ossining Weir there is a great little museum, "The Sing Sing River Museum" that includes photos and historical information about the construction of the aqueduct as well as Sing Sing prison itself. Really, really fun and very small. Definitely worth stopping in at. No entrance fee. From the dam you get on the road and cycle back to the Croton on Hudson railway station, stopping in at "The Blue Pig" on the way to get a delicious ice cream. Take the train back to Dobbs Ferry. During your stay We are a friendly family and interested in getting to know our guests to the extent with which they would like to interact. We also respect the need for "down time" and quietitude. Other things to note There is just me and my adult twin sons (when home). We have 1 cat that is friendly. There are a few rules that I would like guests to adhere to: I would like the screens for the windows to be kept closed at all times, especially on the ground floor where the kitchen is and where the cat's food dishes are located. This is to prevent flies and other unwanted insects from coming in. The back door needs to be closed at all times as raccoons that live in the neighborhood will take advantage and walk in which they have done before. Guests need to remove their shoes once inside the house. I have a shelf by the front door where they can be placed.
