Description
Award winning Keeper's Cottage is situated on a 3,000 acre Highland estate - stunning scenery, privacy and peace are guaranteed. A special feature is the beautiful loch nearby - go kayaking, fly fishing or just sit and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. Walk out the back and in minutes you're in a wonderful mountain wilderness. Straloch is haven for walkers, families and nature lovers. And yet it's just 15 minutes drive from Pitlochry and well placed for day trips. Dog friendly. Games room. The space This charming 19th century cottage has been sympathetically renovated, combining original features and traditional Highland décor with contemporary elements, resulting in a cosy and exceptionally stylish holiday property. The open-plan ground floor features a comfortable sitting area with wood-burning stove, a sleek kitchen with stone worktops and a bold contemporary staircase with steel rails and oak treads. A mix of period and modern furniture, paintings and solid oak flooring creates a homely but elegant space. Upstairs, a stunning reclaimed roll top bath sits pride of place alongside new bathroom fittings. Two elegant double bedrooms with views over the glen feature designer wallpaper, the best beds and fine cotton linen. Little touches include unstinting storage for outdoor garments, a huge wall mounted map of the region, and an all-important separate drinks fridge. Little Luxuries: Keeper's Cottage is beautifully warm and eco friendly thanks to the biomass boiler that runs off waste timber from the estate. You'll find crisp cotton sheets on the comfortable Hypnos beds, snug feather duvets, fluffy towels and delicious smelling handmade soap, shower gel and shampoo by The Highland Soap Company. Families: We have travel cots and high chairs for guests young children and even an all terrain Landrover pram! There are board games, DVDs, toys and books in the house and outside there are swings and a tree house with slide. We also have other garden games available to borrow, such as cricket, swing ball and a football net. The garden is private and securely fenced. Dogs: We welcome up to 2 well behaved dogs (over 1 year old). Dogs are not allowed on the sofas or beds and must sleep overnight in the boot room (please contact us to discuss if this will be a problem as we can occasionally make exceptions). The garden is fenced but dogs must not be left outside unsupervised. As this is a working estate with sheep and cattle, dogs must be kept on a lead around livestock but there are plenty of places you can let your dog run, including the 5 acre Millennium Wood which is securely deer fenced. Activities: There's masses to do from your door, from walks galore and exciting wildlife watching including red squirrels on the feeder, to fishing or just a gentle row around the loch. We have 3 kayaks you can use (buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn) and there's a hard tennis court a short distance away. Please note that the kayaks, rowing boat and tennis court are only available from 1 April to end October. Straloch is a good place for mountain biking and road cycling too with many popular routes on the door step. We have a lockable bike shed for your use. Children's activities: Straloch is a wonderful place for children and there are lots of places for them to explore like the Millennium Wood and the Walled Garden. The back drive is quiet and perfect for cycling up and down safely. Have a picnic on the island and toast marsh mallows or build a den in the wood! Guest access Games Room This is shared with the other holiday cottage. It has a pool table, table tennis and darts and is heated. Bike shed There is a lockable bike shed for your use. We also have bikes you can borrow (at your own risk). Kayaks and rowing boat There are 3 kayaks which you can take out on the loch (2 singles, 1 double) and a rowing boat. Buoyancy aids of all sizes are provided and MUST BE WORN. This is a condition of use and you do so at your own risk. Boats are only available for use from 1 April to 31 October. Tennis There is a well maintained hard tennis court up at the main Straloch house. We have racquets and balls you can borrow. 1 April to 31 October only. Other things to note Please be aware that the wifi internet in the house is fine for internet browsing and emails but is NOT fast enough for streaming music or films, so make sure you download what you need before you come. While we have good mobile reception and 4G across the estate, the mobile phone reception in Keeper's Cottage itself is not good, meaning that for some networks you might have to step outside to make and receive calls. Please check with us before booking if this is a concern. Home cooked ready meals & picnic service - our housekeeper Penny can provide you with a range of delicious home cooked ready meals which you can order in advance. She also does bespoke picnics (March to end October only) delivered to a site of your choice. Please message me if you'd like to see the menus for either of these.
