Florida Critters Despite our meticulous cleaning practices and our best post control efforts, bugs and critters are part of life in Florida. Mosquitos, ants, moths, lizards and frogs sometimes find their way into the house. Help prevent them by: • Cleaning up after cooking/eating and wiping countertops • Keeping food in the fridge • Rinsing dishes before long periods of time in the dishwasher • Emptying trash and recycling regularly • Closing windows and doors that don’t have screens. 1. Anole/Lizard/Gecko/Lagartijas Totally harmless, and found everywhere, despite our best efforts to keep them outside, they sometimes find their way into the patio and house. If you are so inclined, trap them (corner them) and let them free outside. 2. Millipedes/ milpies Annoying, but also harmless. Once they enter a home, they will die within 24hrs which is why you’ll often find them dried out/dead. You can either toss it outside or squish it in a paper towel and throw it away. 3. Palmetto bugs/ chinches de palmito Brown and they look just like cockroaches. While primarily living outside, they seek indoor shelter. Our house is treated to prevent these, but we still see them. If you are seeing them regularly, please let us know so we can arrange to have another treatment done. If you see one alive, please kill it by stepping on it or squishing it with a paper towel. If you find one dead, it means our treatment is working and we do not need to be notified. Absolutely no cleaning fish at the property. There will be a fine of $150 for scales and fish remains that are found in the property at the time of cleaning. Find a place locally that will do it for you or clean at designated areas at the marina. Check-in is after 4pm and during busy seasons it could be as late as 6pm. Please note your code will not work for earlier arrival unless the time was previously agreed upon.
