Welcome to our charming den at Park View! It is a basement and we live upstairs with our doggies - and no kids - so there will be some footsteps when we walk them and some TV sounds but hopefully minimal sounds since we are mostly upstairs. The contactless, private entrance is through a well-lit, short alley and our home is at the very end (see photos). I also provide a parking pass so you can park for free (street parking). I hope to host you soon! The space is a fully functioning studio basement that has its own mini kitchen complete with an induction stove, water heater for your tea, french press, toaster, complimentary tea and coffee, a mini fridge and a microwave oven. It has its own heater/airconditioning unit that allows you to set your own temperature. There is a TV with Amazon fire stick so you can log-in and watch Netflix, Prime, Hulu and Disney+. The entire space is littered with my fave books and climbing (my passion!) decor. There is a work desk and our WiFi functions well so don't worry about missing that zoom call. It comes with a full bath (with bidet!), a comfortable queen size bed, dining table for 2, daybed sofa that converts to a nice single bed. Extra pillows are available as well as additional comforters, if needed. Since it is a basement unit, the ceiling is a bit short and if you are taller than 6’2, it maybe a bit uncomfortable for you (my partner is 6’2 and he seems fine but anyone taller might have a problem). It also has limited natural light so if that is an issue, this may not be the perfect unit for you. The main house is more than 100 yrs old and with hardwood floors so you may hear minimal footsteps noise (just a caveat!) a few times during the day. We try our best to soundproof the space but short of ripping the original floors to soundproof it, there’s nothing else we can do. For the most part, its pretty quiet! However, if you are very sensitive to small noises, a basement Airbnb may not suit you. The unit faces the back alley which makes it relatively quiet and free parking pass (to park on the street) is available upon advanced request. The entire main house and the garage is not accessible to guests since its our primary residence. We are happy to share the backyard as well as the gas grill we have there. The unit is outfitted with everything you might need but If you need anything else, please let us know and we’re happy to provide if we can. We both work full-time so we might not be able to hangout but you can reach us through the airbnb app anytime. We’re pretty responsive! Our home is a 10-min walk from Petworth metro and 15-minute walk from Columbia Heights metro, 15 mins to Safeway, Call your Mother bagel, and beer gardens, wine bars, Heat da Spot, coffee spots, dive bars and other restaurants along Columbia Heights are also within walking distance. There is an elementary school on the next block that has a public playground for kids. It is relatively safe to run, bike and walk in the area but as is common in all neighborhoods, there are undesirable pockets of area as well that you might want to avoid at night. If you are driving, parking pass (for street parking) for our ward is available upon advance request. If you are taking the metro from DCA, take the yellow line to Mount Vernon Square Station, switch to the green line towards Greenbelt and hop off at Georgia Ave. Petworth station. Our place is a 10 minute walk from there. IAD is about 45 minutes without traffic so I recommend taking an uber if you are not driving. You can also take the Silver Line Metro to Washington, DC. You can switch to the Green Line towards Greenbelt on L'Enfant Plaza Station. Once you arrive and want to explore our nation’s capital via metro, you can purchase a Smartrip at any station and can reload it for future use. There is also a nearby bike station you can rent at. There is no washer or dryer in the unit but we are walking distance to a laundromat!
