The Schoolmaster's House is a beautifully restored historic home, built in 1881, located in the heart of Zoar Village, a National Historic Landmark. Just 15 minutes from the Football Hall of Fame, 30 minutes from Amish Country, and 20 minutes from Atwood Lake, this charming home offers the perfect setting to step back in time. Relax with family and friends or enjoy a romantic getaway at the Schoolmaster’s House. The space The historic Schoolmaster’s House retains many of the original features of the home, including exposed wood beams in the kitchen and exposed brick chimneys throughout, while offering modern conveniences such as a completely renovated main bath with jetted tub. The home is approximately 1900 square feet and boasts 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and a back screened-in porch for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. The first level greets guests with a comfortable living space that includes an electric fireplace with heat for added ambiance and warmth in the cooler seasons. There is an antique checker/game table and game chest with a selection of games for all ages. A record player with a small vinyl selection helps take you back to another time. If you prefer more modern conveniences, there is a 43” inch smart television that includes complimentary Netflix, no cable. WIFI throughout the home. Each floor of the home has smart speakers. The living room can be closed off by doors for privacy for guests using the Queen pull-out sofa. The dining room includes a custom Amish-made dining table that can comfortably seat up to six (6), with additional space for two more. There is a wine bar with all the basic essentials for an evening nightcap after exploring the area. The kitchen has original hardwood floors and exposed wood beams while offering the modern conveniences of new cabinets, quartz countertops, a gas stove, and a refrigerator. There is a kitchen banquette that seats up to four (4) and can be doubled as a workspace. The kitchen island provides additional seating for two (2). A custom Amish-made coffee bar includes a Keurig coffeemaker, a latte/cappuccino maker, a regular coffee pot, and an electric tea kettle. Off the kitchen is a screened-in back porch with two rocking chairs and a loveseat to enjoy a quiet morning coffee, read a book, or unwind with a glass of wine. The front porch offers a porch swing where you can enjoy the Zoar Schoolhouse across the street or catch an Amish buggy passing by. The second level has three bedrooms and a main bathroom. The main bedroom has a comfortable king-size four-poster bed and an electric fireplace. The second bedroom offers a queen-sized bed and make-up vanity. The third bedroom was appointed with children in mind and includes a daybed with a trundle and a small play area, complete with two historical American Girl Dolls and accessories (Kristen and Addie), a play barn, a wooden train set, a play table, handmade historical dress-up clothes, and other vintage toys and books. The main bathroom has been completely renovated with a jetted tub and a new vanity. Enjoy complimentary toiletries, plush towels, and soft bathrobes. The backyard has a private sitting area with Adirondack chairs and a gas fire pit. Take a ride in the Village or on the nearby towpath on one of the complimentary bicycles. Additional bikes are available to rent in the Village. Guest access You have access to the whole house except the basement and attic. You also will have access to the building (Bertoni building) directly behind the house which houses the available bikes, outdoor games, and the trash can. All other buildings on the property guests will not have access to. Behind the Bertoni building is a seating area with a gas fire pit that is available for guests to use. Keyless entry and parking for two cars in the driveway. Other things to note The home is thoughtfully equipped with amenities to accommodate couples, families, and bridal parties attending weddings at the nearby Zoar Garden. For couples, the main suite offers a romantic atmosphere with a jetted bathtub, bathrobes, fireplaces in both the living room and main suite, and wine and coffee bar. For families with young children, we provide all the essentials. Just bring your clothes and personal toiletries. The children’s room features educational and vintage toys, including historic American Girl Dolls, a play barn, historical dress-up clothes, an antique school desk, a play table, and a chalkboard. We also offer a changing pad, pack-and-play, highchair, toddler dishes, a baby monitor, baby soap, and towels. The whole family can enjoy games, and adult and child-sized bikes, including a toddler bike with training wheels, and a S’mores maker for indoor fun on cooler nights. For brides getting ready for their big day at Zoar Garden, we have several well-appointed rooms with plenty of mirrors, an antique makeup vanity with a stool, and a beautiful full-length mirror. Our home is accessible to everyone, including those with limited mobility. While the historic nature of the house means the stairs to the second level are narrower than modern ones, there is a handrail for support. If stairs are a concern, we offer a Queen sleeper sofa and a half-bath on the main floor. There is just one small step leading to the front door. The Schoolmaster’s House is in the heart of historic Zoar Village. Across the street is the Zoar Schoolhouse, often used for wedding receptions and family reunions, with a nearby playground and a gazebo for relaxing afternoons. The Los Venados Mexican Restaurant is within walking distance, as are Zoar’s other historic sites, including museums, a bakery, shops, Zoar Garden, and the wetland area. The Erie Canal and towpath are also nearby for scenic walks. A short drive away, you can enjoy kayaking or canoeing, or head to Atwood Lake for swimming and boating (both 10-15 minutes). Ohio’s Amish Country, wineries (15-20 minutes), and Canton’s Football Hall of Fame (20 minutes) are all within easy reach. We are also close to several wedding venues: 6 minutes to Rivercrest Farms, 13 minutes to Columbia Woods, 18 minutes to The Ponds, and 21 minutes to Enchanted Acres.
