Description
Enjoy the sunrise at this unique and tranquil getaway! This property was originally a seafood processing facility...hence The Crab Shack! Watch all the action on the water right out the front door with local waterman in and out of beautiful Carter's Creek to and from the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay. There are marinas and The Tides Inn very close by. This property provides privacy and a short 10 minute drive to nearby restaurants and shops in Irvington, Kilmarnock, and White Stone. The space Relax and get away.... This rustic cottage on Carters Creek is ideal for a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle. For an individual guest, a couple, a couple of friends or a small family, this is just the right space to decompress. The Crab Shack is right at the water's edge and its cozy bedroom, dining area, galley kitchen and living room all face the water. The outside of the building is all metal and the inside is a mix of exposed and painted wood, with a striking floor-to-ceiling oyster shell fireplace. Usually guests congregate outside on the patio or dock, but if it's rainy, the porch or indoors is where to be, to enjoy the sound of rain drops on the tin roof. There is a single 14' sea kayak stored on the dock for our guests use. It has a KayaArm launch/storage and a ladder for easy water access. Some guests have brought their own small water crafts. With the set of stairs and the ladder off of the dock, access and launching are easy! You can paddle to the Tides Inn across the creek faster than you can drive there! The stairs on the dock offer easy access for dogs (and humans!) to get in and out of the water. If you plan to swim, bring river shoes! The oyster shells and barnacles are abundant...they WILL cut your bare feet! The large dock is on deep water.....bring your boat! The Crab Shack is within a ten minute drive of the quaint towns of Irvington, Kilmarnock and White Stone with a variety of shops and restaurants. Dogs are welcome with a small fee. Currently, there is streaming service on the TV only. Netflix, Amazon Prime, ESPN (and ESPN+), Paramount+, and Peacock are available. There is NOT typical live TV....keep this in mind if you have your heart set on watching a specific sporting event...it may not be available at The Crab Shack. Feel free to download your own apps that may provide additional live events that are not currently available. Wifi is excellent...we have had up to 5 devices streaming uninterrupted at the same time. Our very kind neighbors have a dog that will occasionally come by for a visit. "Sister" Brown is a very well behaved dog and gets along well with both people and dogs. Do not be surprised if you meet Sister! Improvements were made by new owners during the winter of '21-'22! We hope you'll join us! Other things to note Queen size American Leather sleeper sofa: This is a really comfortable sleeper sofa with no metal bar! It opens up into the living room and is not private. If we see Two guests booking, we will assume a couple without the need for the pull out bed. If you would like the pull out bed to be made up for your stay, please ask us to do so specifically. There is no charge for this service. Kitchenette: The Crab Shack has a small but creatively functional kitchen. Equipped with an electric skillet, electric hot plate, toaster oven, toaster, pots and pans, pantry essentials, coffee maker, electric kettle and a 1/2 size fridge inside. Outside, there is another 3/4 size fridge and full size gas grill with a side burner. We love to cook (and eat) and have prepared full meals at The Crab Shack. Please see the Welcome Guide for more information. Our neighbors on one side are building a house. It is scheduled to be finished in spring of '25. Our neighbors on the penisula will get started building their new estate in January of '26. They will be working throughout 2026 there. Given we are at the bottom of a hill and so close the the water, we don't expect noise to take away from your experience however some construction related noise should be expected.
