Coomalie House is situated on a secluded 6 acre property bordering the Yarra Ranges National Park, less than 10 minutes drive from Healesville. It's a haven for native flora & fauna with the pristine Badger Creek running through the property. Close to many popular wineries, galleries, restaurants & cafe's, this unique hand-crafted stone house is inspired by the Mid-century architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Coomalie House is an unforgettable getaway experience. The space Coomalie House was built over a 30 year period starting in the 1980’s. It is a homage to the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, drawing inspiration from his ‘Jacobs House II’ built in 1946-48. Exceptional stonework is a feature of Coomalie House and is complimented by the extraordinary 150 year old Jarrah timbers used throughout the building. The gardens surrounding the house have been designed to compliment the building and natural landscape, bringing the beauty of the Australian bush right to the doorstep. The house sits at the foothills of Mt Riddle on a remarkable 6 acre property adjoining the Yarra Ranges National Park and is situated less than 10 minutes drive from Healesville; close to many popular wineries, galleries, restaurants and cafe’s. Coomalie House has three very generous bedrooms with queen size beds, one has an ensuite, and two have doors opening directly onto paved courtyards. In addition there is a small bunk room that sleeps two and is most suitable for children. The heart of Coomalie house is the sweeping open plan living area incorporating a modern well equipped cook's kitchen, large dining table and generous lounge area. A TV and sound system with bluetooth connectivity are provided and Wifi is available in the living areas via an NBN satellite connection. This is slower than land based internet connections that are common in urban areas and has limited download and speed, therefore we ask that guests do not use it for video streaming content. Coomalie house is primarily heated and cooled by a central reverse cycle air conditioning system combined with auxiliary units in some bedrooms. A wood fired heater provides additional heating in the Kitchen area. Firewood is not provided, firewood can be purchased locally from service stations in Healesville. Please note, in the interests of an accurate description of the outdoor amenities at Coomalie house, there are paved outdoor areas including a BBQ and outdoor sitting area, but no covered outdoor space to protect from rain or provide large areas of shade. There is ample indoor living space and and the fine weather outdoor areas are also extensive. Guest access Guests have exclusive access to the whole of Coomalie house and surrounding gardens. Please note there is no laundry available for guests to use at Coomalie House. The property is partly reliant an tank water, seasonal rainfall variations and reductions in overall average rainfall in recent years have prompted us to reduce and prioritise water usage onsite . There is a public laundromat situated in Healesville. There is a one room, bush cabin style accomodation building tucked away about 100 meters past Coomalie house on the same drive. Guests can share the remaining four acres of bushland setting allowing access to Badger Creek. Other things to note Internet Please note that as Coomalie House tucked into the foothills of Mt Riddell, internet connection can only be provided via satellite. We have the best NBN service available through the Sky Muster satellite, however speeds are not comparable to what would normally be expected in metro areas. Video conferencing is limited and we ask guests to avoid streaming content. House Rules Coomalie House is not a party House, this means no gatherings of people beyond those booked to stay are permitted. No Weddings, Ceremonies or Events of any kind are to be held there during a stay. No service or supply vehicles are to drive down to the house. The property is not set up for more than 8 people at a time, in particular the waste management systems and access drives are not suitable for use by more people, even for a short period of time. The grand piano is a family heirloom and used only for concerts and musical events, it is locked and not for guest use, please do not remove the cover, no drinks or food are to be placed on the piano at any time In winter, there is a small heater under the piano that must stay on at all times. All breakages are to be be paid for Our expectation is the house is left as it was found with bedding excepted. Please only use the Wood Heater in the kitchen area at Coomalie House it works well in conjunction with the central reverse cycle heating. Firewood is not provided, if you would like to light a fire in the wood heater, firewood can be bought in Healesville. ALL THE OTHER OPEN FIRES PLACES AT COOMALIE HOUSE HAVE BEEN DECOMMISSIONED, THEY ARE NOT TO BE LIT, WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE, THIS IS DUE TO A FAULTY INITIAL DESIGN LEADING TO POOR OPERATION, HEAT LOSS AND EXCESSIVE SMOKING FROM OUTSIDE WIND CONDITIONS. For heating please use the central reverse cycle heating.
