Description

Nestled in one of the most beautiful villages in France, overlooking a rosegarden and river, just down the lane from the Abbaye Chateau de Camon, our newly renovated gite combines the charm of a traditional stone house with a contemporary, spacious home, tastefully equipped to provide a perfect base for a holiday in this stunning area. Whether you want to spend your time relaxing or fill your days exploring the huge range of fascinating places nearby, you are surrounded by amazing landscapes. The space This is a wonderful spot. We want you to make yourself at home whilst you are here so we have tried to provide a space that has a good balance between relaxing comfort and a sense of luxury. There is the added bonus of underfloor heating throughout the house when necessary. The price during colder months includes the cost of heating. We have just installed a 22kw charger for EV to make things more convenient for people with electric cars. There is a feeling of light and space the moment you enter the house. The open-plan ground floor has a large lounge with plenty of room for both relaxed and more formal eating, a very attractive, well-equipped kitchen and a spacious seating area. The settee converts into a double bed should it be required. There is a big flat-screen smart television with movie channels and french tv if you wish to use it. The sizeable Master bedroom has a comfortable King-size bed, a flat-screen tv, and an en-suite with a view across the orchard and surrounding hills. The 2 other bedrooms have roomy Superking-size beds (which can also be converted into singles as well if necessary) There are beautiful views from the french doors, overlooking a rose garden and orchard, across to the river and hills. These open onto the balcony where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or glass of local wine or take the steps down to the outside area where you can relax in the sun, read or just soak up the peace. Here you will find a garden dining table and chairs for up to 8 people, a barbecue, and a comfortable seating area. There are also sunchairs and parasols available. Although Camon is a tranquil village you are within walking distance of an excellent restaurant at the Abbaye-Chateau, a delightful little cafe offering homemade local produce in the summer season and now there is a new Restaurant and cafe just down the road with a large terrace, serving a traditional French menu. The peaceful surroundings here offer a wonderful opportunity to escape if you want to, with a gentle river at the end of our lane where there are picnic tables and somewhere to paddle on a hot day. Stroll through the delightful village, meandering through the pretty little back streets and archways. There is a little children's playground to be found just next to the Abbaye. "The Village of the Roses" has a Rose Festival every May and there is a lovely rose garden where you can find all the varieties that grow here. You can walk up the terraced hills beyond the river to catch some wonderful views of the Pyrenees at the Table d'orientation and discover the ancient stone cabannes that would offer shade to the workers in the vineyards. Just a stone's throw from the front door you have "La Voie Verte", the old railway line which has been converted in to a 38 kms foot and cycle path, suitable for VTC and horse-riding too which will take you through the middle of the countryside. You have the Lac de Montbel nearby, with its two beaches, where you can easily spend days swimming, walking, horse-riding, eating, or enjoying the water sports on offer. The smaller but very pretty Lac de Puivert, overlooked by Puivert Castle, also has plenty to offer; swimming, volleyball, children's playground, La Buvette, and other places to eat. Whether you drive, walk or cycle through this stunning area you will be surrounded by varied landscapes; views of the snow-capped Pyrenees, soft, rolling hills, pretty villages, sunflower fields and shaded woods or dramatic gorges, mountain and forest walks a little further afield. You can hire bikes nearby. In contrast, for those wanting a sightseeing holiday, there are so many interesting places to visit like the famous Cite de Carcassonne with the Canal du Midi nearby. Discover the fascinating history of the spectacular Cathare Castles of Montsegur, Puivert, Roquefixade or Foix, to name but a few. Explore the Pre-historic paintings in the caves at Niaux, the underground river of Labouiche or the beautiful local medieval town of Mirepoix and surrounding villages. There are lively, bustling markets held nearby all year round and at night time during July and August. If you enjoy good wine, we are surrounded by very respected wine-producing vineyards with an abundance of caves where you can go tasting the local produce. There are many water activities offered not far away for the more courageous, like white-water-rafting or canyoning or Adventure Parks where you can swing through the trees.....and for those who love ski-ing, our nearest ski-resort with 21 runs is just 50 minutes away for those who want to take a winter break. Day trips to Andorra or the Med are possible and well worth the amazing drive. There are many useful websites for visiting the Aude and Ariege regions, as well as the Pyrenees, take a look for more ideas. Guest access You have many options with your sleeping arrangements. The Super-king beds can be converted in to 2 singles and vice versa. Also please note that there is a comfortable sofa bed in the lounge, so the house can sleep 8 people if necessary. We also have a cot for babies. However, the listed price per night is for 6 people and for every person over 6 there is a charge of 10 euros per person per night to cover the extra costs. There is parking space for 2 cars available and please ask us if you would like secure storage for your bikes. You should find everything you need here to eat in or picnic out in style. Cool bag and boxes, back pack, ice packs, rugs, plates etc readily available. There are a variety of books, maps and board-games to borrow. Beach towels are available and a range of children's games, books and activities to use if you wish. There is Wifi available. Other things to note Whilst the inside of the property is like any normal house and therefore is generally suitable for children, there are stairs going up to the first floor and steps from the balcony down to the garden area. However there are stair-gates fitted on both sets of stairs should you wish to use them.
