When you finally head indoors, you’ll find a light, bright, and comfortable interior. Vaulted high ceilings, interior walls that don’t go to the ceiling, and an open floor plan for the common area create an incredible sense of spaciousness. The “open-air” design of the villa connects you to nature and captures the breezes we get from being in a rainforest at the top of a hill. Our windows aren’t covered with glass (just screens and heavy wooden louvers) and the doors aren’t sealed up, although they dead-bolt securely. Two bedrooms have doors that open directly to the back of the house, so you won’t have to wake everyone else if you want to enjoy the peacefulness of early mornings. And when everyone is awake, throw all the doors open to let in that fabulous view! But it’s not just all about the view. In the past few years, we’ve replaced, repaired, or refreshed almost everything in the villa. We also supply beach and snorkel equipment for your use, and board games and several TVs in case you have a rainy day or just decide to stay in for a while. Just like at a hotel, we have staff around-the-clock at the villa. They are responsible for maintaining and securing our home – and to help you have a great vacation! You can hire our housekeeper (Doxie) for cooking or meal services, and there is a wonderful driver (Junior and his employee Billy) that partners with us that’s also a great tour guide. Guest access The entire property is for your use, except for: * Closets that are sealed shut or locked and the contents of those closets. * Infrastructure equipment such as the water pump, backup generator, Internet/WiFi equipment, pool equipment (such as pump and chlorinator), etc. If there is an issue with something, please don't repair it yourself - notify the staff or contact the owners. Other things to note Our open-air design is wonderful for natural ventilation, but it also means things from outside, such as dust and leaves and small creatures (insects, geckos/anoles, and perhaps even an occasional mouse, bat or bird) will get in the villa. We treat or set traps to minimize pests, but no treatment is 100% effective. We are not suitable for children under five. Ask for details if needed before booking. The housekeeper (Doxie) is the only staff member that will be inside for any significant portion of time – the rest of the staff stay outside except for immediate maintenance needs or to get supplies. Doxie’s hours are normally 9 AM to late afternoon, but you may ask her to adjust her hours a bit or to be outside except when she is doing chores inside. She cooks on-site, so she’ll be in the villa for at least a few hours on those days she prepares meals for you. The staff has been with us for years and we trust them, but they won’t be insulted if you lock up your valuables in the safes we’ve provided in the closet of each bedroom. The standard prices for Doxie to cook a meal when you supply the groceries are: $12US (breakfast); $18 US (lunch); and $25US (dinner). Prices are current as of July 1, 2023 and are good for up to six people, but are subject to change. A meal plan that includes the groceries is also available. You’ll need transportation of some sort, as we are at an elevation of 550 feet and the roads to the villa are rough and can be slippery with loose gravel or mud. We recommend hiring our partner, Junior, to drive for you. Renting a vehicle and driving yourself is possible but quite an adventure! You’ll need a vehicle with high ground clearance and enough power to get up the hills. The recording mode has been turned off on the Echo Dots for your privacy. Feel free to unplug them if you wish. They are easy to spot (they look like hockey pucks) and easily accessible. You may also use the "Mute" button to temporarily disable them. We have a website with lots of planning assistance and more information about the villa and the area.
