The cottage is located less than 1.5 hours from NYC, close to the Connecticut border. Family friendly, but also perfect for couples or small groups. Originally built as a summer bungalow in the 1930s, the cottage is now winterized and is decorated in a cozy blend of mid-century modern and scandinavian-inspired pieces. Enjoy the wood stove in the winter and the porch in the summer. There are toys, board games, and a gas grill for your enjoyment. Close to quaint towns for shopping and dining, hiking trails, private beaches, museums, apple/pumpkin picking, and more! The house includes a spacious master bedroom with queen bed and a second bedroom with bunk beds. Guests have access to the entire house, front and back yards, and beach passes to two private beaches on Putnam Lake. We are available at any time to answer questions or address concerns, however we typically are not available to welcome you to the house in person. The lake about 4 miles around, with a small (inhabited!) island in the middle. No motorboats are allowed, making it a quiet year-round retreat. The lake is also home to a group of swans. Once frozen in the winter, the lake is enjoyed by ice fishers, ice skaters and winter walkers. During the summer the lake offers two well-maintained beaches with lifeguards. For runners, a loop around the lake is a pleasant 4 mile route. Beaches, restaurants and grocery store are within walking distance (less than 1/2 mile). The cottage is a 15 minute taxi ride from the Brewster MetroNorth station (about $20). A car will allow you to enjoy all of the sights in the area. Some guests coming from the city have chosen to take the train and rent a car at a nearby station (e.g. North White Plains). The house has toys, games and DVDs. Guests have access to the entire house, front and back yards, and beach passes to two private beaches on Putnam Lake. We are typically not available to welcome you to the cottage in person, but are always available by phone if you need to reach us!
