Located in beautiful, historic downtown West Jefferson, UpTown Loft is a great place to stay and see the NC mountains without roughing it. This two bedroom two bath loft has a large master suite and two queen beds. There is a fully-equipped kitchen for those who love to cook. We are one to two blocks from restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops, cafes, galleries, shops, parks, the farmers market, and a first-run movie theater. My wife and I bought this historic 1937 building in 2004 and fully renovated the upstairs apartment ourselves. We converted the existing lighting store into a two bedroom, two bathroom loft apartment. It has the original chestnut floors, exposed brick walls and high ceilings. We installed two natural gas heating stoves for efficiency and ambiance. We made a huge bathroom on the master suite with a claw-foot tub and a view of Mt Jefferson out the back window. There is a modern, fully-equipped kitchen for those who love to cook. My family lived here from 2004 until 2014 when we ran out of room when our second child was born. The entire space is available. Both front and back staircases are accessible, but the front one is straight, wider and closer to parking. I am available by cell and respond quickly to messages through the airbnb app. We are one to two blocks from restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops, cafes, galleries, shops, parks, the library, the farmers market, and a first-run movie theater. The butcher shop directly below the loft has local and organic meats, produce, and many other grocery items. NC's only cheese plant is in the downtown of West Jefferson. You can visit the plant, buy dairy items and see them make the cheese. There are many seasonal activities in town. In the summer, fall, and early winter, there are gallery crawls throughout the town. There is free live music in the park during the summer. The town hosts the annual Christmas in July Festival, antiques festivals and antique car shows. Some of the downtown restaurants have live music and outdoor seating. We are close to the New River and all of the fun river activities: kayaking, canoeing, tubing, fishing and exploring. Ashe county is THE best place to come and get your Christmas tree. There are many choose-and-cut farms nearby. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, we have the lighting of the town Christmas tree, visits with Santa and rides on the antique fire truck! The winter months, we are about 45 minutes from Appalachian Ski Mtn and Hawk's Nest Snow-tubing. We are about an hour away from Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain Ski resorts. Free street parking is just a few feet away from the loft entrance. You can park for free in any available parking space. If you are here on a Sunday night, park on the side street beside the building so they can sweep the streets. The streets are well-maintained in the winter and are the first to be plowed since DOT is just down the street. You will not need a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle in the winter to get here. There is a flight of stairs to enter the apartment. We do not have an elevator.
