Description

Come relax at our lovingly restored historic 1873 Marlboro Farmhouse, centrally located between Beacon, New Paltz, Kingston, and West Point; and close to many local farms, orchards, wineries, and fantastic hiking trails. The farmhouse is split into three separate and private units. This listing is for the spacious 3400 sq. ft 3 BR/2.5 bath unit that occupies the entire first floor. This is NOT a party house. The only guests allowed on the property are the ones listed on the reservation. The space Our farmhouse was built in 1873 on part of the original George Weigand homestead, settled in 1744. The house is situated atop a gentle knoll, facing east for beautiful morning sunlight, has large south facing windows for winter warmth, and has a large back deck for enjoying sunsets overlooking the back meadow. We have restored many of the Italianate details and have centered the color scheme and decor to give the space a warm and rustic feel. Nestled at the base of the Marlboro Mountains, the house is set back from the road, with expansive lawns, a pond and meandering stream that flows through a mature birch grove. We are lovingly restoring the landscape and gardens at the heart of this historic estate, which includes wetlands hosting many different species of native bird life, and a large reservoir where migrating Canadian geese, cranes, hawks, and other birds are commonly seen. The open concept kitchen/dining/living room area boast over 1000 sq ft, vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and large windows. The kitchen is fully stocked with all cooking & baking supplies, spices, and a coffee station. The coffee station includes a regular drip pot and filters which can brew a whole pot or a single cup; a grinder, French press, pour over, stove top espresso maker, and of course, a special Farmhouse Blend coffee. The large mid-century addition is connected to the original portion of the house via a design room filled with artwork and inspiration. The three bedrooms are all located adjacent to a ship-lapped reading room. The bedrooms are all on the main floor and comfortably sleep 8 in beds. The front bedroom has two queen beds along with an en suite, the middle bedroom has a queen, and the third bedroom has a king sleigh bed. There is plenty of outdoor space for grilling, picnicking, and entertainment. The backyard is large enough (over an acre) for first and second floor guests to have separate grill areas and to have a substantial amount of room for social distancing and privacy. Feel free to bring a football or Frisbee; we have croquet, horseshoes, badminton and plenty of space for other lawn games. If you need to accommodate larger groups, or are looking for a smaller space in the same home, the second floor Orchards Keeper's Apartment is listed on Airbnb as "Cozy Hudson Valley Getaway" *If you would like to book both 1st and 2nd floor units together please contact us with requested dates. We keep the third floor unit for ourselves and we may be at the property during your stay tending to the gardens and maintenance of the estate. We respect your privacy and space - if you'd like to chat about the property or life in general we are always welcome to warm conversation. The base nightly rate includes two guests, each additional guest is $35/person/night. We chose this pricing structure to accommodate parties of all sizes. Guest access Guests have access to the first floor unit of our home as well as full access to our expansively large private backyard complete with gas grill, charcoal BBQ, fire pit and chiminea. We also have yard games such as croquet, badminton, horseshoes, and bocce we'd be more than happy to help you set up if you'd like to play outside. Please help yourself to anything in the garden! We typically have squash and tomatoes coming out of our ears. The old pool house is slowly turning into a summer kitchen and library, you are more than welcome to take a peek - please note it is a work in progress. Please note that the second floor is a completely separate and private apartment also available on Airbnb, there may be guests staying in that unit during your stay. All of our guests are awesome!!! Feel free to join in on a game of catch, or if not, there is plenty of space to keep to yourself. We keep the third floor apartment for ourselves to stay in when we are feeling the call of the fresh Hudson Valley mountain air! Other things to note At night, there is almost no light pollution, and the stars in the sky overhead are stunning. You will hear: frogs in the pond, roosters from the farms down the road, coyotes up on the mountainside, owls in the grove of birch trees, tractors driving past, the orchard horn at noon, Canadian Geese flying overhead... and at night: silence (punctuated softly once in a while by the train whistle from across the river.)
