Description

Forest Cabin is 380sf of coziness on a peaceful 40 acre waterfront estate. Enjoy a comfy full/double bed up in the loft (notice the ladder up), a peekaboo view through the forest canopy to Puget Sound, relax in the outdoor clawfoot tub or beside the wood stove (wood provided), rest in a hammock during summer, and watch the chickens and ducks peck about. Walk 3.min. across the field to access 1000 ft of private, southern exposure Puget Sound beach. Leashed pets are welcome w/a $45 pet fee. The space Forest Cottage is a light and airy, cozy tiny house experience on Vashon Island. It is the perfect place for a solitary retreat to relax, think, write, walk the trails or beach, or as retreat from the pressures of everyday life. The outdoor soaking tub is delightful any time of year, except rare periods when the nighttime temperatures are below freezing, and even then you can still use the tub, but it needs to be disconnected after use to keep the pipes from freezing! There is also a shower in the indoor bathroom. There is a spiral ladder up to the second floor sleeping loft which has a full sized bed for two. The daybed on the main floor can sleeps one. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS OF THE LADDER TO BE SURE IT WILL WORK FOR YOU AND YOURS PRIOR TO BOOKING. We provide wood for the wood stove and there is a propane heater, as well. There is a small outdoor fire pit that can be used if it isn't too dry or windy and if there is not a burn ban in effect. Please check with us before lighting any outdoor fire. For cooking there is 3 burner propane stove (instructions for use are in the house manual and there is also a video we can send if you would like) and oven, an outdoor propane barbecue, a microwave, pots/pans/utensils, dishes and silverware, a sink and a refrigerator/freezer. There is a table inside and an outdoor table also. There are 2 hammocks (in the summer), and a year-round, hot water outdoor clawfoot soaking tub (bring your favorite bubble bath). The bathroom has a very small shower, toilet and vanity. Bedding, towels, oil/vinegar, salt/pepper, sugar, coffee and a French press, linens, pots/pans, dishes, firewood, propane, and soap are provided. Bring your favorite foods and cream for your coffee. If you would like some farm fresh eggs, please ask! If you need ANYTHING during your stay, please reach out to Lisa or the alternate contacts listed in the house manual. We want your stay to be 5 stars all around, so don't wait to let us know after your stay if something wasn't just right! There is a "sturdy shoes required" trail to the Mt. Rainier view beach just a few minutes walk through the forest, or drive three minutes to Pt. Robinson Lighthouse park where you can drive down to the beach. Orcas and humpback whales sometimes visit, seals, sea lions, Osprey, Blue Heron, and otter pass by, and there are Bald Eagles perched in the trees. Agates be found on the beach which is lovely for walking. Point Robinson Lighthouse/Park is a 7 minute walk along the road or beach. Maury Island Marine Park is a great hiking or biking area about a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk along the beach. The 40 acre property has 4 beautifully decorated, private cottages and Bluff House that can be rented simultaneously for weddings, birthdays, reunions or film and photo shoots or photography. (During events the entire property and all the cottages are booked, so don’t worry: there will not be an event going on during your stay unless it is yours!) Please click on my profile photo to see the various accommodations and an overview photo of where they are located on the property. For private events, all the cottages and Bluff House on the 40 acres can be rented so 23 guests can stay overnight, and tent camping is allowed, in addition. Inquire for availability and group pricing. There are unobstructed views of Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier from the bluff, on-site parking, and you can use any vendors you choose for food, music, etc. The property has been featured in The Seattle Times Pacific Magazine, Country Living Magazine, Sunset books, in catalogs (Cutter & Buck most recently) and in film including Anthony Bordain's "No Reservations" (aired Nov. 19, 2017 on the Pacific Northwest show). Celebrities have chosen to be married on the property - it is truly a stunning place to be! We are very familiar with how to coordinate details of large and small productions and group activities to assure your time here is a success and exactly as you want it to be. PLEASE NOTE: Summer Saturdays are blocked on the calendar until April 30th to reserve availability for events & weddings. Please let us know if you are interested in summer dates that show as blocked as they may actually be available. Guest access You might want to bring a bathing suit for the outdoor clawfoot soaking tub if you are planning to use it during the day. There are bubble bath and epsom salts either on the tub or under the bathroom vanity. The kitchenette consists of toaster oven, microwave, hot plate, crock pot and small refrigerator. There is a propane barbecue outside the loft, another propane bbq at the beach, and a fire pit with wood provided at the Loft and another on the beach (you can collect firewood on the beach). Vashon has several fabulous restaurants: Bramble House, Gravy, Earthen, May’s Thai, The Hardware Store Restaurant, Snapdragon and Creekside Restaurant at the Vashon Island Golf & Country Club ( 6 minutes away). Minglement (at the corner of Cemetery Rd. and Vashon Hwy), Burton Coffee Stand and Cafe Luna (1/2 block west of the 4 way stop in town) have espresso, muffins, etc. Vashon Baking Co. has amazing quiche and pastries to go. The Heron's Nest gallery in the town of Vashon has local art, and there are several other galleries to enjoy, as well. The Chamber of Commerce, Vashon Allied Arts and Vashon Events are great resources for things to do during your visit to Vashon, including wine tasting, cideries, artists’ studios, the annual VCA Garden Tour in June, Low Tide and Kite Festivals, Strawberry Festival, etc. Melissa Moen does on-site massage. Horse riding is available at VI Riding Center or Westside Stables. Firewood is provided for the wood stove. (There is regular heat as well). Laundry service available at $10/load. Guests above 2 are $25 per reservation. Leashed pets are welcome with a $40 pet fee per stay. Please READ OVER THE HOUSE MANUAL in the cabin when you arrive. It is in the closet if not sitting on the table. ENJOY!!!!!! Other things to note Visit the Vashon Chamber of Commerce, Vashon Events, or Vashon Hub websites for things to do on the island. Kyaks can be rented at Burton Beach, and the water there and at Dockton Park gets warm and is very swimmable in the summer.
