Not just a place to stay, but a thoughtfully curated retreat you’ll want to return to year after year. The space Welcome to Circe & Hare Lodge — a cozy hillside log cabin tucked into Vermont’s picturesque Northeast Kingdom. Step inside and let the peaceful charm of this rustic yet refined retreat wrap around you. Whether you’re here to relax by the fire, soak in the outdoor hot tub beneath the stars, wander forest trails, or simply breathe in the mountain air, you’ll find everything you need to unwind and feel at home. Built on a slope overlooking a river and distant mountain peaks, the lodge blends traditional log-cabin craftsmanship with thoughtful, modern comforts. As hands-on owners, we’ve poured care into every detail — from renovating the cabin ourselves to personally maintaining the property — all to ensure each guest enjoys the utmost comfort and a truly memorable stay. The property is organically maintained, surrounded by gardens, woods, and the quiet sounds of nature — offering a level of privacy and serenity that makes it feel like your own hidden retreat. Inside, you’ll notice the difference right away — this isn’t a bare vacation rental. It’s a home curated with care: plush sofas, soft throws, fine linens, real art and antiques, and a kitchen stocked with chef-quality cookware and gadgets. At the heart of the cabin stands a grand stone fireplace, its chimney climbing gracefully beside the open wooden staircase. The warm glow of the fire fills both the living room and reading nook, where you can curl up with a book. The open floor plan flows naturally into the kitchen and dining area, which open onto a natural wood deck overlooking the hillside, river, and rolling mountains beyond — and just steps away, the hot tub awaits. The first-floor bathroom offers a touch of indulgence with heated tile floors, a modern washer and dryer, and plush bathrobes for your stay. Upstairs, you’ll find three cozy bedrooms, each with its own personality. Slide open the barn doors to the romantic primary suite, where vintage factory windows overlook the fireplace below. Step through the door onto your private balcony — the perfect spot to gaze at the star-filled Vermont night sky. Across the hall are two inviting bedrooms, and a large walk-in closet which holds extra linens, blankets, games, and plenty of space for luggage and clothing. Circe & Hare Lodge is especially well-suited to couples and smaller parties who value beauty, care, and quiet — guests who treat a home as thoughtfully as it was created. Circe & Hare Lodge is more than a getaway — it’s a place to slow down, reconnect, and savor Vermont’s simple beauty in complete comfort, privacy, and care. Guest access Guests have access to the entire home, porches that wrap around most of the house, and a large yard with fire pit. Our hot tub sits under the roof of the side deck, just a few steps from the kitchen door. The property has 5 acres, much of it wooded, with a mowed path which meanders down to the Lamoille River. There's also a small pond on the property. Dogs love the pond & swimming in the river or exploring the edges. Guests can enjoy meditating or relaxing at the river's edge. Some guests have enjoyed a morning river plunge in warmer weather. In winter, guests may snowshoe or ski around the property, as there are some paths through the wooded areas. There is a horseshoe game set up in the lawn, and we have a bocce ball set for use in good weather. Guests may use the fire pit with permission during times of low fire-risk. The fire pit is built into the ground, so during snowy months it will fill with snow quickly. Guests are welcome to shovel out for winter use. Our neighbor, Little Creek Canoe & Kayak, makes beautiful handmade vessels, which you can rent & take to one of the many nearby lakes. Other things to note PLEASE NOTE: Guests are expected to read and be willing to honor our House Rules. Please take the time to read these and reach out if you have any questions. ~We offer a grocery shopping service prior to your arrival. Spend less time running errands and more time relaxing and enjoying your stay! Just message us with a detailed grocery list, and the fridge and pantry will be stocked upon your arrival. We know where to get all the best fresh, local foods & supplies. Please ask us for more information if this interests you. ~Over the years, many guests have celebrated some of life’s sweetest moments here — engagements, elopements, small weddings, anniversaries, and more. It truly means a lot to us when people choose the cabin for their special days. We’re always happy to add a few extra touches to make things feel even more memorable — like simple floral arrangements or other thoughtful details. Just reach out anytime to chat about what you have in mind! ~The property is private and rural, with 5 acres of yard, woods, paths & riverside to explore. The cabin is located on a gravel road, about a quarter mile off a state road. While this is a more active road than ours, it is not heavily traveled. In winter, it is barely noticeable, but in warmer months, you can hear larger trucks passing while outdoors. This remains “the best of both worlds”...privacy and seclusion in a peaceful location, yet close enough to access roads that connect with local towns/restaurants, etc. ~While the cabin can accommodate 6 guests, it is not set up to be kid-friendly, with no safety features for very young children and many breakables & expensive decoration. We recommend if you plan to bring children, they are age 13 and up. ~One thing that we must stress is how remote and rural this area of Vermont is. While this is usually what draws visitors to Vermont, preparation & proper expectations are key to a successful visit. In winter, most secondary roads have a packed layer of snow/sand on them...4WD or AWD is necessary to navigate these roads. Any of the higher class roads (class 3,4) will definitely require snow tires or 4WD. In other seasons, these secondary roads are gravel. **In warmer-weather months, we (or our caretakers), may need to come onto the property for lawn and garden maintenance. We will coordinate with guests so this is done while you are off-site, so as not to disturb your stay. **During winter, it snows here almost every day - sometimes just a flurry & sometimes a few inches or more. Circe & Hare Lodge is located in one of the only towns in Vermont where the township plows the driveway for it's residents! Plowing typically occurs in the very early morning hours, and we are at the mercy of the plow company's schedule - we have no control over their arrival time. *Guests are expected to do some light shoveling from the porch to their vehicles. Since parking is very close to the house, this is not a great deal of shoveling. The snow shovel, as well as buckets of sand, are located either on the front porch or just inside in the coat closet. *Guests are responsible for getting vehicles out, should they get stuck in snow in the driveway or drive outside of the clearly-marked areas. If guests get stuck for some reason, you are responsible for getting your vehicles out as quickly as possible, especially in snow storms, as you cannot block the driveway for the snow plow to have access to the entire driveway. **We highly recommend arriving with some necessities already in your vehicle in winter: extra blankets, snow boots, & snow shovel, just in case! *We provide firewood for our guests...the large cubby (stack) in the hearth will be full of firewood upon your arrival, and this is on us! Once you’ve used this firewood, the firewood outdoors is available for your use. Pricing for this seasoned firewood is $20/full cubby & $10/half-cubby, which will be collected via AirBnb after your stay. Please note: the state of Vermont does not allow firewood to be brought in from other states. While power outages are rare, they can happen in storms. Our whole-house generator switches on instantly during an outage and turns off when power is restored. Internet generally works well, but in rural areas like this, can be spotty. It occasionally requires unplugging and restarting if problems occur. It is best not to expect city-like utilities or accommodations, but instead enjoy the rustic qualities of the area and use it as an opportunity to disconnect!
