The space Welcome to Circe & Hare Lodge! One step inside & you'll realize you've arrived at the perfect place to relax & unwind. Located in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, our rustic & refined cabin is built on a hillside, featuring natural cedar deck overlooking the Lamoille River & distant mountains. We've got everything you need for a carefree getaway! Inside this traditional log cabin, you'll find modern conveniences with rustic charm. This cabin, however, is unlike many vacation rentals which feel sterile & are sparsely decorated. We’ve put great effort into creating an over-the-top guest experience...fine bedding/blankets & throws, a fully-stocked kitchen with chef-approved brands & gadgets, furnished with plush, cozy couches & chairs, & decorated with real art & antiques. A tall stone fireplace is set within the middle of the living room, towering along the wooden stairs to the second floor. The living room/reading nook enjoy views of the fireplace. The house boasts an open, cozy floor plan. The kitchen/eating area opens out to the natural deck overlooking the hillside/river & distant views of mountain tops. Bathroom hosts updated washer/dryer facilities & heated tile floor & is located on the first floor. The second floor features 3 bedrooms. Open the sliding barn doors at the top of the stairs into the romantic master bedroom, with vintage factory glass windows overlooking the downstairs & fireplace. A big, luxurious bed offers views through the door onto a balcony overlooking the yard/distant mountains. There is nothing quite like a Vermont starry night sky viewed from your bedroom balcony! A large walk-in closet is found at the top of the stairs - additional linens & blankets are found here, as well as plenty of storage space for luggage & hanging clothing. The two other cozy bedrooms are located across the hall, one featuring raw-edge wooden headboard & antique dresser for storage, and the other, with log-cabin siding, rocking chair & closet. We provide plush bathrobes for guests to use during their stay. Guest access Guests have access to the entire home, porches that wrap around most of the house, and a large yard with fire pit. Our hot tub sits under a roof, situated between the rear deck & wood shed. The property has 5 acres, much of it wooded, with a mowed path which meanders down to the Lamoille River. There's also a small pond on the property. Dogs love the pond & swimming in the river or exploring the edges. In winter, guests may snowshoe or ski around the property, as there are some paths through the wooded areas. There is a horseshoe game set up in the lawn, and we have a croquet set for use in good weather. Guests may use the fire pit with permission during times of low fire-risk. The fire pit is built into the ground, so during snowy months it will fill with snow quickly. Guests are welcome to shovel out for winter use. Our neighbor, Little Creek Canoe & Kayak, makes beautiful handmade vessels, which you can rent & take to one of the many nearby lakes. Other things to note PLEASE NOTE: Guests are expected to read & be willing to honor House Rules. A Security Deposit is required for every booking per House Rules. Booking implies agreement to pay deposit and honor rules. Unpaid deposit means no entry to property. Due to some unfortunate past issues, we have adopted a policy where collecting a deposit helps to ensure guests will treat our property as their own & maintain honest booking practices. We have no intention of nitpicking - our goal is to refund the entire security deposit after your check-out, as long as the property is in good condition, house rules are followed & nothing of value is broken/in need of replacement. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact us! We offer a grocery shopping service prior to your arrival. Spend less time running errands & more time relaxing & enjoying your stay! Just message us with a detailed grocery list, and the fridge & cupboards will be stocked upon your arrival! We know where to get all the best fresh, local foods & supplies! Please ask us for more information if this interests you. The property is private & rural, with 5 acres of yard, woods, paths & riverside to explore. We want to note, however, that we are about a quarter mile from a larger thoroughfare. While this is a more active road than ours, it is not heavily traveled. In winter, it is barely noticeable, but in warmer months, you can hear large trucks when they go by. We still feel this is “the best of both worlds”...privacy & seclusion in a peaceful location, yet close enough to access roads that connect with local towns/restaurants, etc. *While the cabin can accommodate 6 guests, it is not particularly kid-friendly, with no safety features for very young children & many breakables. We recommend if you plan to bring kids, they are age 13 and up. One thing that we must stress is how remote & rural this area of Vermont is. While this is usually what draws visitors to Vermont, preparation & proper expectations are key to a successful visit. In winter, most secondary roads have a packed layer of snow/sand on them...4-wheel drive is necessary to navigate these roads. Any of the higher class roads (class 3,4) will definitely require snow tires & 4-wheel drive. In other seasons, these secondary roads are gravel. **In summer months, we (or our caretakers), will need to come onto the property to mow the lawn & water the planters, flower & veggie gardens. We try to coordinate with guests to take care of these things while they are off-site so as not to disturb their stay. **During winter, it snows here almost every day - sometimes just a flurry & sometimes a few inches or more. Circe & Hare Lodge is located in one of the only towns in Vermont where the township plows the driveway for it's residents! Plowing typically occurs in the very early morning hours, and often you won't even hear it. *Guests are expected to do some light shoveling from the porch to their vehicles. Since parking is very close to the house, this is not a great deal of shoveling. The snow shovel, as well as buckets of sand, are located either on the front porch or just inside in the coat closet. *Guests are responsible for getting vehicles out, should they get stuck in snow in the driveway or drive outside of the clearly-marked areas. If guests get stuck for some reason, you are responsible for getting your vehicles out as quickly as possible, especially in snow storms, as you cannot block the driveway for the snow plow to have access to the entire driveway. **We highly recommend arriving with some necessities already in your vehicle in winter: extra blankets, snow boots, & snow shovel, just in case! *We provide firewood for our guests...the large cubby (stack) in the hearth will be full of firewood upon your arrival, and this is on us! Once you’ve used this firewood, the firewood outdoors is available for your use. Pricing for this seasoned firewood is $20/full cubby & $10/half-cubby, which will be billed separately through AirBnb after your stay. The state of Vermont does not allow firewood to be brought in from other states. While power outages are rare, they can happen in storms. We have a whole-house generator which switches on instantly during an outage & turns off when power is restored. Internet generally works well, but in rural areas like this, can be spotty. It occasionally requires unplugging & restarting if problems occur. It is best not to expect city-like utilities or accommodations, but instead enjoy the rustic qualities of the area & use it as an opportunity to disconnect!
