Description

This modern log home is the perfect getaway if you are looking for peace, quiet, and crystal clear star gazing! Located on 200 private acres, Wilderness Lodge is a private, remote, and cozy retreat. During your stay you will be the only renters - feel free to use the (new in 2023!) hot tub, lounge on the deck near the stream, or explore the property. The kitchen comes fully equipped and the house has laundry machines on the main floor. There is a small general store minutes away. The space **Update - cleaning - In July 2025 we did switch to a new cleaning company due to a poor reviews. We are very sorry for issues with earlier stays and feel confident with the new team going forward.** **Update - Hurricane Helene - the cabin and immediate roads have been repaired. Depending on what route you need to take to drive here, you might still be dealing with closed roads (typically NE of Asheville proper) that can make getting here difficult. If you can, please stay here or other properties that are on the periphery of the storm. Our hosts and cleaning staff, restaurants and attractions are all struggling with a tourism-based economy that evaporated at our most busy season. Your tourist dollars are more important than ever to the overall Western North Carolina community. ** The house has two bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen bed. There is also an open loft that includes two queen beds. There is one bathroom on the main floor, and it includes a tub/shower. The great room, dining room and kitchen are all open to each other. The great room received new couch and chairs in 2019. Additionally, if your group needs more space, there is a studio apartment above the garage also available to rent that includes one queen bed and a couch, and a bathroom with shower only. The studio apartment is available for an additional $70 per night. We will only rent the studio to the same group renting the log cabin, or if the log cabin is empty. We will never have two separate groups renting at the same time at Wilderness Lodge. Pets are more than welcome, we have two requests for people who bring their pets: cover the furniture with sheets that we provide and kennel them if you leave without them. We include two kennels in the rental if you don't want to bring your own! There is also a fenced in dog run yard off of the porch and hot tub area so you can relax with them outside without worrying about them running off too far. We do not charge a pet deposit nor addition pet rent. Outside there is a propane grill, a full wrap-around deck with a covered porch to sit in comfy Adirondack chairs or a bar-height table to dine outside. The deck also houses the hot tub off the back of the house. There is a fire pit overlooking the creek and another full deck to enjoy the creek from. You may see from reviews that guests noted the difficulty of the driveway: it has been repaired in March 2023. It is now easy to access and 4WD/AWD is only recommended if you are coming in the winter and might encounter snowy/icy conditions. Currently the property is listed for sale. Because of that we are only taking reservations 3 months or less in advance. All reservations WILL BE HONORED. There is a small possibility that there will be a showing during your stay, in which case we would ask that you leave the property for one hour and we will compensate you with $50 for the inconvenience. I very rarely have asked renters to accommodate a real estate showing. Guest access You will be the only renter on the 200 acres and you can have full access to all aspects of the property. The only private area maintained are the garage stalls. Other things to note You may notice in our reviews many guests commenting on the difficulty of the driveway. As of mid February 2023, we finally have it regraded! It is easily passable now for any vehicle. In the winter when snow is possible, 4 WD is highly recommended as you are driving an incline! We also replaced the hot tub in February 2023.
