Description
***ALL PROFITS SUPPORT THE HORSES OF PERIDOT EQUINE SANCTUARY*** The rustic decor and well lit space reflects the nature of our horse farm, where you can stay for a peaceful country getaway and bring your horses along! We're rural, but you'll still have easy access to lots of amenities in the wonderful nearby town of Chardon, less than 10 minutes away. Cleveland itself, currently going through a "rustbelt renaissance" is only about 45 minutes minutes West. We welcome guests of all backgrounds! The space Complete one bedroom, one bath apartment attached to our home (but entirely its own living space). The 850 sq ft unit has its own garage and private entrance, washer & dryer, fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, range/oven, 2 basin sink, plates, glasses, silverware, cookware, coffee maker, microwave). Though the unit was built in the '70s, all appliances except for the oven are less than 5 years old. The Stone Core flooring was installed in '22. While some of the furniture may look "tired", all of the main pieces of furniture are less than 5 years old, though many of them are made from reclaimed wood from the iconic Youngstown Sheet and Tube factory, founded in 1900 and closed in 1977. It's one of a kind and was hand-picked to match and accentuate the rustic feel of the farm. It also has a fenced-in side yard for your dogs, with door access through the laundry room. We're a dog friendly property! However, we DO ask all visiting dogs to stay in the fenced in yard. There's a wood burning stove to add to the ambiance while also supplying additional heat, with plenty of wood in the garage and front side yard. There's also a small deck off the back door, with a view of the barn and some pastures and a small charcoal grill. We have now opened 2 of our stalls to guests and travelers with horses for an additional fee ($50 per night per horse). For our horse guests, we offer a 12x12 stall and a 10x12 stall, both with attached 13x35 all season runs, water and bedding. Our barn is airy and well ventilated. We have an indoor arena, outdoor arena with several cross country jumps in the adjacent field, an indoor wash rack, 9 acres, with about 7 acres of grass pastures with 3 board fencing. The barn is literally 50 ft from the Guesthouse, with the bedroom view looking straight down the barn aisleway, and the living room, and dining area and deck view 50 feet from the stall runs. We live onsite, farrier onsite. Hay available for sale ($7 per bale). Our drive is a short 150ft straight. open drive with a parking area at the end. 40+ foot trailers are able to easily back in while there is plenty of room for your midsize trailers to turn around in the parking area. Current health certificate and negative Coggin's required prior to unloading. Guest access Guests may use/access anything and everything that's obviously part of the Airbnb unit. We welcome interest in the horses, but ask guests not to enter the barn or pastures without the barn-owner or her husband present. We also ask that guests who bring dogs, keep them in the fenced in yard. We do an extremely quiet, controlled, non-threatening one on one introduction through the fence, which allows our resident dogs to know who is staying here. After the introduction they typically go about their own business and are quite content having some temporary guests to share their property with. This process has worked well for all types of dogs; young, old, insecure, rambunctious, shy, loud, quiet, multiple dogs, large dogs, small dogs, dogs that are friendly, dogs that are unfriendly. The side yard is plenty large enough for even the bigger pups to run around and get some excess energy out or stretch their legs after being in the car. We provide doggy poop bags near the door to help keep the yard beautiful for the next guest and their puppy. Other things to note *We are not an official 501-C3 non-profit. We are a self-funded sanctuary (with an unincorporated non-profit status) that has taken in horses with behavioral issues over the course of Lindsay's lifetime of work with horses. As such, they are not suitable for guests to ride or handle. Additionally, our insurance does not allow it. **Since we are listed as accommodations rather than an experience, and due to the constraints on our time as a self-funded and self-run facility, we are no longer offering our barn tour and introduction to the horses as a complimentary amenity. For $10 per person we would be happy to arrange a barn tour and introduction to the horses ahead of time. We schedule our barn tours and introduction to the horses at 9:30 AM after breakfast, when all the horses are still in the barn. After that, they are turned out in the fields for the day and can only be observed over the fence at that point. We would be happy to answer questions you may have about care, feeding and horses in general during the barn tour. ***While the property is overall extremely peaceful, this is a working horse farm. We make every effort to keep noise and disruption to a minimum for our guests, but at times there is ongoing maintenance and repair of the property and equipment, to keep things running. We also have a dump trailer used for manure removal in the winter. That said, we've never had complaints about manure odors as we try to keep the barn and property very clean.
