Comfort, convenience, well-stocked with essentials The space Kiwi Lodge is a well-designed log cabin of 2,000 sq. ft. on a small lake with clear water in Western Maine; seasonal short term rental in a quiet rural area with no tourist amenities! The guests enjoying Kiwi Lodge in last week of August 2025 wrote: "we had such a perfect time watching loons, hummingbirds, ducks, frogs, fish, blue heron and kayaking around the lake. Yesterday the morning fog was so beautiful I could barely see the house across the lake and not a human noise to be heard for hours as I sat and watched the world unfold! " Late fall guests in Nov. '25 said "We just love it here!" and extended their stay. If this sounds appealing to you, Kiwi Lodge is your perfect place! Many of our guests return year after year, some since 2011 when we began rentals. Peak weeks have limited availability by previous winter; best to book well ahead. This is a comfortable, completely equipped home; relax on the deck, reconnect with family, read, enjoy a farm-raised grilled steak from a local supplier, swimming (swim raft offshore) boating, fishing (plentiful in 2025 - large mouth bass and sunfish), or trips for hiking, visiting historic small towns, blueberry, apple picking. Many great day trips - see our Guidebook. Visit local farms to buy really organic meat, free-range eggs, vegetables, fruit. The large kitchen has all pantry basics and more. There's even a herb garden right outside the kitchen door. Just bring your clothing, personal toiletries, walk in and you're at home. We are relaxing our no pet policy on a trial basis this year! Please, one dog only, no- or low-shed breed, under 50lbs. Spacious living room on main floor, family room on garden level. Two bedrooms on upper level, third bedroom on garden level. Two full bathrooms (one on upper level, one on main floor), washer, dryer. Two large TVs, fast 1 gig WiFi (1K mbps, online gaming ok). Many board & card games, movies, books. Included are: all bedding, towels (bring your own swim towels please), soaps, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, laundry & d/w detergents. All beds and dining table hand-made by Maine artisans! On the top floor: bedroom with king size bed, second with one queen, one full size bed. On garden level bedroom has bunk with full lower and twin upper. Luxury mattresses, quality bedding. Large closets in each bedroom. Futon in living room, Pack'nPlay for the baby. Property amenities: grill, outdoor hot tub, hammock, volleyball/ badminton/pickle ball net, horseshoes, croquet, firepit, lots of outdoor seating, 55' dock and swim raft anchored in lake. Rental includes paddleboat, large canoe, one one-person hard-sided kayak: three sit-on-top kayaks (one child size). NOTE: 6' kayak is max. 130lbs, 8' kayak is max. 175lbs. Life jackets in all sizes. Guest access Guests have the entire property: 2000 sq ft log cabin on three levels and almost two acres of woods and lawn, quiet and private. The two nearest houses are screened by trees; the local owners visit only for occasional weekends. Other smaller cabins around the lake are mostly unoccupied. You will probably be the only people on the water! Other things to note Kiwi Lodge is in a rural area in the Western Mountain and Lakes region of Maine. If you are looking for lots of night life, fine dining in the area, shopping malls a few minutes away, manicured lawns and a suburban environment - this will not be the best place for you! The house water supply is from a deep well (filtered, safe for drinking), the summer weather is great but in this northern state there may be rain, or even a storm. It is QUIET here! Lake may be used by fishermen, you may hear the neighbors during weekends but normally you will not hear anyone else, just the occasional car. This small lake is more suited to paddling in canoe, kayak or small boat with small electric engine, not suitable for larger boats with gas engines. Max. 10HP engines permitted. You will hear the cry of the loons, probably the drilling of a woodpecker, and you will see plenty of birds and other wildlife. There is a resident bald eagle!
