Reserve your Nature Sabbatical! This vintage and charming 2 bedroom plus bunk room cabin on the Feather River is the perfect place to unplug from the craziness of the world and reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and the life you were meant to live. Science now confirms what the "Ancients" have always known, time in nature is essential to our health and well being. This cabin sleeps 6. Two bedrooms (a queen, and 2 twins), a bunk room (2) and 1 bath, plus an extra shower/sink room. The space This delightful cabin was built in the 1920’s and has a peaceful nostalgic ambiance; truly a taste of a bygone era! We have named this cabin "Mt. Washington" after one of the local peaks, and is one of a cluster of five cabins that were part of the Penman Peak Lumber Company established in 1925, which was a small working lumber mill until the mid 1940’s. The cabins are part of University of Earth and the Lost Sierra Retreat Center. All the cabins are within walking distance of the National Wild and Scenic Middle Fork of the Feather River, which winds through our 40 acres. Stellar views of the Feather River, along with Sierra sunsets and moonlit nights, can be seen from the private back deck and riverside bedroom, along with many wonderful places to view the mountain peaks, Feather River and the local wildlife. Located along scenic Highway 70, the Retreat Center and land is surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, and to the delight of many of our guests, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property. Wander our many trails which offer both seclusion and stunning views. Swim in the healing waters of the "Medicine River." Our enchanting riverside sitting areas and hammocks make our retreat center just what the doctor ordered. Our Nature Sabbaticals offer a unique opportunity in a truly magical setting for our guests to unplug and let nature become the healer and teacher. Take a break from screens and devices as part of your renewal time. If you can, our suggested stay is at least three nights or longer in order to truly allow nature to have its way with you. For those so inclined, each of the cabins have suggested nature immersion activities and ecotherapy practices scientifically validated to promote healing, wholeness and enhanced creativity. Examples are walking barefoot on the delightful riverside sands and enjoying the health benefits of grounding while forest bathing. Make this your base for exploring the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, Plumas Eureka State Park, and the surrounding areas. The Lost Sierra is a wonderland for hiking, swimming, and personal retreat. The Lost Sierra Retreat Center offers indoor lodging for up to 30 in our charming and delightfully appointed historic cabins. Our two "Glamping" Yurts provide additional indoor lodging for up to 4. Our serene riverside primitive campsites offer an opportunity for deep nature connection and privacy. Host your workshop here! Guest access Guests have access to most of the 40 acres, river sites and common areas. The river sites have Adirondack chairs and hammocks, and one site has a firepit (used as season/fire restrictions allow). The river may be accessed by an intermediate trail from the cabin area, or by unpaved road (seasonally). Other things to note University of Earth is a "Sanctuary of Sobriety" and intoxicants of any kind are not allowed on the land. At the Lost Sierra Retreat Center nature is the intoxicant, come drink in the "moonshine." Leave the cannabis, psychedelics and alcohol spirits at home. Come imbibe on the Spirits of Nature, you will be amazed at the clarity this can offer. There can be an occasional train; there is no set schedule. Most guests enjoy it! Cell service can be spotty at our rural mountain location. We have no internet here. If you must "connect" there is free wifi at the Chamber of Commerce 3 miles down the road at the junction of highway 70/89. We have a "No Shoe" rule at the cabins. So, rock your sox - or slippers!!
