Built in 1890, Bear Cottage is located just off Main St, and just steps away from the Trailways Bus Stop, wonderful restaurants, shops, library, hiking trails and fishing or tubing on the beautiful Esopus Creek. The space Please note-No smoking is allowed on or in this property. The cottage is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after every visit. Your health (and ours) is what matters most. Built in 1890, Bear cottage is well-maintained and has beautiful hardwood floors, light filled rooms with local art, comfortable furnishings, and a nice selection of books and music to enjoy during your stay. The living room has a cozy gas fireplace, and flows from the entry hall and into the dining/library/music room, which is perfect for entertaining, listening to music, playing games and being together. The country kitchen has everything you need for meal preparations, including an electric stove, coffee maker, dishwasher, and microwave. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed and antique dresser, as well as hooks for hanging clothes. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower. Bear Cottage is perfectly suited for 4 guests, but there is also a futon. (Babies and toddlers are not counted in the number of guests allowed.) The driveway will accommodate four cars parked end to end. Although cell service is poor in Phoenicia, the cottage has Internet, Smart TV (Netflix ready if you have an acct.), DVD player, CD/Aux player, music, books, and movies for guest entertainment. There is no cable at the cottage, but you won't miss it. We have a large backyard with a picnic table, front and back porches with rocking chairs, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings. Bear cottage is located in the beautiful hamlet of Phoenicia. Phoenicia is small, but incredibly charming and there are wonderful shops and restaurants, including the famous Phoenicia Diner, wood-fired pizza at Brio’s, and chips, guac and margaritas at Alamo Cantina. Time your visit just right and you may be able to buy unique and cool stuff at the Phoenicia Flea. Local boutiques, hiking trails and the Esopus Creek are all nearby within walking distance. Come to hike, fish, ski, canoe, tube, and connect with nature. You can take your dog for a ramble, explore nearby hamlets, or have a spa treatment. Phoenicia is the perfect spot to escape city stress. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire first floor of the property, including front and back porches and the large backyard. The home has a gas fireplace in the living room, and a wood burning fireplace in the backyard. Guests may purchase firewood at the corner store for the outdoor fireplace. Please do not burn our sitting logs. Please note, guests are not allowed access to the pantry, attic, or the cellar, as they contain host’s personal items. These will remain locked at all times. The second floor is not included in this rental and will remain locked at all times. Guests who gain access to the attic without the host’s explicit permission will be charged the extra fees associated with the space, additional cleaning fee, repair costs if needed and a complaint to Airbnb. This listing is only for the first floor of the house so that we can offer a more affordable nightly rate for those that don’t need the additional space. **We rent out the entire house with attic rooms to accommodate larger groups via a separate listing under “Phoenicia 1890 Bear Cottage.” Other things to note Well mannered and completely housebroken dogs are allowed with an additional charge of $30/per doggie guest/visit. Sorry, there is a two dog limit. The dog fee will be added to your rental through an alteration submitted to Airbnb. Dogs may not be left unattended in the cottage. Sorry, but no cats, no exceptions. Our family is seriously allergic to them. Thank you. The person who rented the cottage on Airbnb must be the guest checking in. We want to know who our guests are. (NO SUBLETS ALLOWED.) No smoking is permitted in the cottage or on the porches. Please do not leave cigarette butts in the yard. Early check-ins and late check-outs are NOT available at this time due to staffing shortages and high demand. Please note there is a 2% Ulster county hotel occupancy tax on reservations, which will be added as alteration. Rentals of thirty or more days are exempt from the hotel tax.
