Description

Tastefully converted in 2011, The Barn holiday cottage is an original stone barn which used to house six cows back in the early 1900's. Now it provides cosy and comfortable accommodation for two people on our seventeen acre small farm. The cottage comprises a comfortable double bedroom, luxury shower room, well equipped kitchenette with electric hob, oven, fridge, washing machine/dryer. There is a sunny lounge with smart TV and a south-west facing sun terrace to enjoy a glass of wine. The space Barrow Farm is situated in the picturesque village of Rode which is nine miles from the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath. Rode itself, nestles in the pretty Somerset countryside and is lucky to have two pubs and a post-office/shop/cafe. Rode is an old, pretty and interesting village with many old and historic buildings. Outside of the village there are many places to visit. The famous Longleat House and Safari Park are only a fifteen minute drive away and National Trust properties such as Stourheah, Lacock (where some of Harry Potter was filmed) and Dyrham Park are thirty minutes drive. The famous prehistoric monument of Stone Henge is about forty minutes drive away and Avebury with its standing stones an museum is about an hour. Bristol is easy to get to by train from Bradford on Avon with its many museums and the well known SS Britain. Wells is also worth a visit just to see its stunning Cathedral. Back at home, our lovely stone built farm lies near the River Frome where we have the fishing rights to our side of the river. We run a very small PYO in the Summer and a 5 van Caravan Club CL site. There are numerous pretty walks on the doorstep including the long distance Macmillan footpath. For cyclists there are lots of country lanes to explore and also the Wiltshire Cycle Way. There is a regular bus service into the historic City of Bath and also Frome. Other local towns include the very picturesque Bradford on Avon with the Kennet and Avon canal to walk or cycle along. There are also lots of cafes and pubs to visit as well plus a very good music scene. Frome, is also a very interesting place (some of Poldark was filmed here) with its quirky streets and independent shops. It also has the Rye Bakery where you can buy pizza and enjoy a disco on a Friday night! We also have our own little bakery at the farm which is open on a Friday and Saturday morning where you can experience proper homemade sour bread, delicious pasties, quiches and very yummy sweet pastries. Check out the little bakery on the Rode FB page to find out more. The cottage is a lovely, rural place to visit in the Summer but with plenty to see and do. The Winter also offers lots of local events as well. Longleat House host their Festival of Light and Bath hosts an annual Christmas market (27th November until 14th December 2025). Stourhead NT also have Christmas events going on including a festive light show. Check out all these events on their individual websites. Access Statement: The Barn cottage is sited in a rural setting. We have a flock of sheep and free range hens. The farm and cottage are surrounded by undulating ground. The front of the cottage has a gravel surface and the back of the cottage a paved terrace. There is a small step up into the cottage and a threshold step out of the french windows onto the terrace. Inside the cottage the kitchen, living area and shower room/toilet are all on one level. There is a standard step down into the bedroom. Please note the cottage does not have disabled facilities or hand rails. Guest access The cottage and terrace is your space to enjoy ..... We have a footpath from the farm which takes you into the village and for one of the local river walks. if you have a rod licence you are welcome to fish. We do have sheep in our fields so not generally accessible unless you are fishing.
