It has a nail salon, hair salon, McDonalds, a hot deli bar and a car service center all inside the Walmart. It’s only 1 miles away on HWY16 and I-40 intersection. They also have a Murphy’s gas fueling convenience store, Burger King, Zaxbys, Hyw 55 Burgers, Subway, Jens Chinese Buffet, Dollar Tree and Auto Zone all in the same parking lot. Please call or text if you need anything or have questions. You may also leave notes. I am available any time if you have questions about my home, the area, local attractions... anything you might need help with. I can provide directions to shopping, restaurants, entertainment, medical care, Etc. I try to keep a check on messages and respond ASAP. I will try to give you as much privacy and social distancing as possible. You have access to the common areas of my home but are not allowed in any other bedrooms except the one you are renting. My home is 5 minutes from I-40 in Conover which makes traveling in the area easy peasy! We have everything imaginable within a short driving distance- If you’re here on business, visiting friends or family, moving to the area, or passing through to visit the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, going snow skiing, sledding or hiking, headed to the east coast beaches, here for shopping at our world famous Hickory Furniture Mart, (Hickory is the Furniture Capital of the World), events at the Hickory Metro Convention Center, catching a race at the Hickory Motor Speedway, a Baseball fan going to The LP Fran Stadium, home of The Crawdads or on a golf trip ... Whatever the reason, we would love to host you! Rock Barn Country Club is 5 minutes away. It has two designer golf courses, The Robert Trent Jones and The Jackson Course. It also has “The Spa at Rock Barn”. It’s a full service day spa, so if you have others in your group that prefer a massage and an indoor heated pool over golfing, it’s the perfect place. If you don’t want to get off your workout routine the closet gym is a few minutes away “The Perfect Workout” There’s many other gyms here, at least one has a reciprocal plan such as Planet Fitness and The YMCA. Check with your home gym to see if they have a plan for when you travel and if they can recommend a location that will honor your home gym membership. If you enjoy the outdoors and like nature walks the Greenway Walking Trail is only 5 minutes away. There’s many nice, safe family friendly and animal friendly parks in the area. Conover’s downtown area is only a 5 minute drive. You can park anywhere on Main Street and walk to all the shops and businesses. You can design your own ornamental crafts at The Freckled Frog, do some painting at one of our wine & design venues. Shop at our higher-end boutiques or previously enjoyed clothing and consignment shops. There’s even a vintage shop that carry everything from designer hand bags from back in the day to antique neon signs from back in the day and everything in between. There’s bakeries with coffee, ice cream. Our Restaurants in downtown are wonderful. There’s a few bars with great bar food and TV’s for game watching. Food trucks, antique stores and jewelry stores, shops with unique handmade and personalized items, hair salons, barber shops, as well as several banks, car detailing and pharmacies all right on the Main Street in Conover. In the same area they also have a free splash pad to enjoy in the warmer months with a park and covered picnic area. It has a paved walking trail and several water features and small bridges. It’s just behind the Conover library and gym in downtown. The same area hosts open air live music shows/ movies in the park and other fun events and festivals during warmer weather. Bring your on chair or blanket! Conover and the surrounding areas have many churches of all faiths and our community is always very welcoming to new faces. Depending on the season there are usually road side vendors selling fresh flowers, vegetables or fruit and there’s almost always food trucks downtown. Another fun place to visit is the quaint little town of Newton. It’s only a 10 minute drive. Their “Old Court House” sits in the center of town. It’s been converted into a museum with lots of interesting memorabilia. You can park there and enjoy walking to all the little shops around the courthouse square. They have the cutest little coffee shops, diners, wine shops, pizza parlors, bars and pubs as well as finer dining. It truly resembles a scene from a Hallmark movie especially during holidays. The have a wonderful community theater with live plays and musicals. There’s several horse barns right now that give riding lessons. They host many outdoor festivals and events. It has a small movie theater “The State Cinema”, it also has a community swimming pool that’s open to the public for a small admission fee. On a bigger scale The Kool Park Pool is a great way to spend a hot summer day. It’s in Hickory. It’s a nice, well maintain pool with slides created to look like cliffs. It also has a huge, really tall diving board. It is open to the public but is a little more expensive. To get your money’s worth you may want to plan to stay all day. You can take your own food/snacks/drinks. They play good music on loud speakers and it gives you that tropical fun feeling. They do sell concessions but it’s really easy to throw a cooler in the trunk with drinks and snacks. BTW, I have a cooler for you. The American Legion Fairground hosts a huge flea market every Thursday. It’s open to the public with free admission. You can find some of everything at this flea market. They have anything from a fresh bouquet a flowers to homegrown vegetables to used car parts. The county fair is held there every September. It hosts car shows regularly and Relay for Life in the spring. If you want department store shopping we have The Valley Hills Mall in Hickory off of exit 125. It has Belk, Dillard’s, JC Penney’s as anchor stores. It also has a large food court and coffee shops. The Hickory Convention Center is on Exit 125. Hickory also has a huge AMC movie theater with 14 screens and a new addition with a 70ft movie screen. They serve real food... Pizza, Chicken tenders, nachos as well as the typical movie theater concessions but that’s not even the best part. They sell beer and Wine, yes, you heard correctly, beer and wine at the movies. Target with a Starbucks, Kohl’s, TJ Max, Ross, Party City, Barnes & Nobles with a Starbucks and another 24 hour Walmart all are off Exit 125. Not sure that anyone traveling would have the time or need to visit our local animal shelters but we do have 2 really nice locations in the exit 125 area. They are a no kill shelter that has primarily Dog and Cats. There are many, many, many restaurants on HWY 70 ( Catawba Valley Blvd) off I-40 Exit 125. Hickory is one exit further up heading west. Hickory also has many upscale restaurants as well as fast food and casual dining choices. Hickory is home to Lenoir Rhyne College, Catawba Valley Community College, The Hickory Science Center (SALT Block), The Hickory Museum of Art, Patrick Beaver Library and is near the Hickory Downtown area. Hickory is a 10 minute drive heading west on I-40 and it has a charming “”Union Square” area with public parks, Hickory Community Theater with amazing live plays and musicals, specialty shops, Beauty Salons and boutiques, Wine Shops, Art Galleries, fancy restaurants and pubs with outside seating. The downtown Hickory area often has open air, live music events, Farmer’s Market, street fairs, etc. Hickory (Downtown) and Conover both have a YMCA’s with indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Hickory has a Planet Fitness The Catawba River, lake Hickory is beautiful by moonlight. It has many access points for fishing by boat and from the banks but very little beach area. It’s a beautiful body of water but hard to enjoy without the use of a vessel. There is a dinner cruise on a large boat that cruises around the lake and has live music. Very romantic. They dock off the 321 bridge headed toward the Granite Falls/Blowing Rock/Boone area. This is 15 minutes away. We have 2 local hospitals, the closest to my home is Catawba Valley Medical Center, it’s on Fairgrove Church Road exit 128 off 1-40. There’s also Frye Regional now life point. It’s close to Hickory Downtown area, exit 125 off I-40. Both hospitals have Emergency Rooms and are open 24 hours. There are several urgent cares in the area open day time hours. There are many pharmacy’s/drug stores in the area. The closest would be inside the 24hour Walmart on Hwy 16, near my house. This Walmart has an eye center with eye doctor and a pharmacy but they are only open during day time hours. They have an automotive center on the right side, outside of the Walmart building. It stays open until 8pm. This comes in handy if you are traveling and have issues with breaks, battery or tires. If you were to need prescriptions filled after business hours in the area you only have two options. Walgreens in Hickory and CVS. For food delivery- Make sure you change the delivery location to my home address when ordering take out. Domino’s delivers there own food. There Location is on 10th avenue. DoorDash Uber Eats Grub Hub Post Mates Walmart will deliver food and other store items to my home address. You do have to download the Walmart App and select the Conover store. You must plan ahead for delivery from the store such as food. They have a cut off time each day. You have to select the date, then the time slot. If there’s not one available for that day, consider changing the delivery date to the next day. They will deliver to my home and leave your order on the front steps. They will try once to text to let you know they left your order. Be very mindful to bring your order inside so it doesn’t go bad. You can also order your groceries from Walmart the very same way but click on pick up instead of delivery. You still have to drive to the store and go to the pick up area. DoorDash has Walgreens delivery. They will deliver anything the local store sells - meat, milk all kinds of food as well as personal care items and medical supplies. We have Yellow Cabs, Greenway Bus, Ubers, lyft and the Hickory Hop shuttle to and from The Hickory Airport from Charlotte. Enterprise Rent-A-Car as well as several other rental car agency’s are located near the Hickory Airport and other locations. This is our primary residence but we work late hours so you will have lots of privacy. We try very hard to keep out of the way and practice social distancing but we do live here. We spend most of our time at home in our private area. I will give updates on my location and schedule during your stay. If you have any special needs please advise and I will try to accommodate them as best I can. I will let you know ahead of time if I can accommodate special request and preferences. For safety reasons before accepting reservations I require that Airbnb has verified your Federal ID, email and phone number. I also require a full name, where you’re coming from, nature of your visit, work related- hours and other pertinent information regarding your stay when you request to book. This information is only to ensure that my home is the best fit for your needs so that you will have the best possible stay. I do take into consideration the review history and your status must be in good standing.
