Description

Thick stone and cob walls keep this beautiful little cottage toasty in winter, and gloriously cool in the hot summer months. Little Trembraze is set in a woodland glade overlooking a valley. Built in 1840 as a mill workers’ cottage, it has been renovated to include a log burner and air source heating. Perfect for walkers and wildlife watchers, it is a get-away-from-it-all experience. Own entrance and parking, no other property in sight. Just 1 mile from SW Coast Path. Kingsize or single beds. The space Wildlife This rural idyll is a haven for wildlife – you're likely to see fox, badger, stoat, rabbit, pheasant and deer from the cottage. You'll also see and hear many different species of birds, including song thrush, woodpecker, tawny and barn owls. From the beaches and coast path, look out for seals, basking sharks and dolphins. (Bring binoculars!) Walking This part of the Lizard peninsula is criss-crossed with public footpaths and bridleways that go on for miles, and it's easy to plan circular routes. There are many places close by where you can join the SW Coast Path. Local beauty spots The stunning Helford River, and Frenchman's Creek, full of yachts, sailing boats, Cornish fishers and cove boats, is just a few miles from Little Trembraze. Bordering this are many beautiful walks through National Trust land, including the historic Tremayne Quay. A few miles in the other direction you'll find the tiny valley of Poltesco, with the remains of the ancient serpentine stone works in the cove. Lizard Point, the UK's most southerly point and home to the rare Cornish chough (red-legged bird), is another few miles on. Year-round appeal Little Trembraze is a wonderful place to stay at any time of the year. There is a wood chip area with a log seat on one side of the cottage, next to the wildflower garden. Plus a slate terrace in front of the cottage, with a huge piece of granite which we found inside(!) the cottage during renovation, now used as a seat. There's also a wooden table and chairs in this area. This enables you to catch the sun at different times of the day. For when the weather is not so great, we've made inside the cottage as cosy as possible. There's a really comfy Parker Knoll sofa, a log burner (we'll give you enough wood for your first fire, but you have to purchase thereafter), and air source heating upstairs and down. The latter is supremely efficient in terms of heat production and eco-friendliness. More on the interiors The bedroom has a kingsize bed, which can be split into two singles. We use 100% pure linen bedding as it is a natural, breathable fabric that washes well. It's 'relaxed' linen, which means it's very soft, and doesn't crease as much as standard linen. I also chose it as I don't iron, which is energy-saving for me and the environment! The bedroom has a small chest of of drawers and free-standing mirror, plus a closet wardrobe. Seagrass rugs and soft lighting. There is also a beautiful painting of a Cornish Pipin Fish, by local artist Tim Wright, on the wall. The bathroom tiles were chosen for their old, faded and slightly chipped look. (They are not really chipped!) I love the softness and historic feel they give to the bathroom. As the bathroom is quite small, we took the bath out and put in a shower. A ceiling beam runs through it, so you must watch your head! The old country dining table is extendable, should you have friends over - or simply want room for a fabulous feast! About your hosts I am a practising Medical Herbalist. I love cultivating healing plants, as well as using them to improve people's health. I love the outdoor life, the countryside and the sea, I love walking my dogs and riding my horse... I am married to John, who also loves the great outdoors, particularly anything to do with boats and fishing. We live on the other side of the woodland in the mill cottage. Out of sight, but available should you need anything. This includes information on places to visit and things to do in this beautiful part of Cornwall – plus advice on herbal remedies and good fishing spots! Interested in herbal medicine? If you are interested in having a herbal/holistic consultation, relating to your general health and wellbeing, or specific health issues, I offer these at a reduced rate to guests at Little Trembraze. Herbal medicine can be especially useful as we get older and start to ‘creak’, mentally and physically! Natural methods of support can be so much gentler, safer, and just as effective – often more so – than pharmaceuticals. Guest access Whole cottage; patio and BBQ area to front and rear of cottage; car park attached to cottage, which leads directly onto the lane. Other things to note Please be aware... ...that we do not have wi fi or internet at Little Trembraze. There is scanty mobile reception if you are prepared to wander around a bit! Low ceilings in the bedroom and bathroom, and a narrow staircase, may be a problem for larger persons, or with physical disabilities. Please contact owners to discuss. There is no bath, only shower. There is no washing machine, or facilities for washing/drying clothes. We do not take children or infants. All guests must be over 18. No smoking. Sorry, no pets – we have dogs, horses and chickens. Check-in time is 3pm, check-out time 10am.
