Large, late 1800s home. Nestled in between the historic district and the commercial district at the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, yet surprisingly secluded and private with ample verdant grounds and generous off-street parking. A (genuine) 3-5 minute walk to all parts of the central business district, with numerous shopping, entertainment, and dining options, as well as the ocean, town beach, Shore Path, Village Green, local museums, and main station for the complimentary island shuttle. *************************************************************************************** *****PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE BOOKING***** *************************************************************************************** OUR STANDARD OFFERING VARIES BY SEASON! DURING OUR PEAK SEASON From mid-June through the end of October, our nightly price reflects use of the entire house (5 bedrooms [King, 2 queens, 2 double twins]/3 full baths), for a maximum of 10 guests. With very limited exception, we rent only weekly--(7 nights; Sunday to Sunday). AS SUCH, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO AND WILL DECLINE ANY BOOKING THAT DOES NOT MEET THESE CRITERIA. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE. DURING OUR OFF SEASON From mid-October through mid-JUNE, our nightly price reflects partial use of the house (3 bedrooms[King, Queen, double twin] /2 full baths), for a maximum of 6 guests. The full house is available during this time, but at an additional cost. We also accept reservations of less than a full week, and without regard to which day of the week the reservation starts and ends on. PLEASE CALL OR MESSAGE US TO DISCUSS YOUR PLANS. The Libby House is one of the largest rental properties in downtown Bar Harbor proper, offering 5 bedrooms (7 beds) and 3 full baths, parking for several vehicles, and sizable, grassy grounds filled with a variety of flowering trees and bushes. Built in the 1890's, the house offers contemporary features and comforts while retaining a number of historic touches such plaster walls, hard-wood floors, detailed trim, claw-foot tubs, and ornate light fixtures. Once settled in this central location, many guests leave their car parked for the duration of their stay. The Libby House is equipped with high speed cable internet over WIFI, digital satellite TV, and Sirrius XM satellite radio. A collection of board games, puzzles and several dozen books are available to help pass the time. During the summer season, guests have access to the entire house, except the cellar, a storage room on the 2nd floor, and the adjacent garage and barn. The situation is the same for the rest of the year, EXCEPT that a section of the second floor is closed (temporarily suspending the use of 1 Queen bedroom, 1 double Twin bedroom and one full bath) and not available UNLESS expressly requested to be rented. IN OTHER WORDS, DURING LATE FALL, WINTER, AND EARLY SPRING, OUR STANDARD ADVERTISED OFFERING IS 3 BEDROOMS, 2 BATHS. HOWEVER, 5 BEDROOMS, 3 BATHS IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. We do not wish to disturb our guests during their stay. We will stop by to welcome you at your arrival and to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. We live nearby and are always available to answer questions or make recommendations. The Libby House sits in a tree-filled, sunny neighborhood abutting the historic residential district that was once home to a colony of "rusticators" comprised of New York Philharmonic Orchestra luminaries. Although almost everything that you will want to see or do in Bar Harbor is a 3-5 minute walk away, the property is well-sheltered from the noise, congestion and lights of the downtown. The grounds are quite spacious, affording considerable room for children to play. Our favorite activities include taking an early morning walk on the shore path, enjoying a cocktail on the back porch at sunset, and catching a band concert on the nearby Village Green. Bar Harbor instituted a paid-parking scheme across most of the downtown streets in 2019. As such, guests will want to avoid having to park on-street in-town. Fortunately, Bar Harbor is an exceptionally walkable town and the Libby House is centrally located and has ample off-street parking for several vehicles. From the Libby House, almost everything you will want to see or do downtown, from taking in a movie at the historic art-deco Criterion theatre, to enjoying a gourmet meal, to joining one of the many ocean excursions, is only a brief walk away. The downtown station for the Island Explorer, a free seasonal shuttle service serving Acadia National Park and most points on the island is a short walk away. A number of local tax companies, as well as Uber and Lyft drivers, also service the town. PLEASE NOTE: During peak season, from June to late October, we typically book weekly as a 5 bedroom, 3 bath property for a maximum of 10 guests. Our price reflects this. However, depending on availability, a smaller number of rooms may be booked at a reduced price for shorter periods of time, especially in the off season. We will do our best to accommodate all reasonable requests, so please do not hesitate call to inquire with questions about bookings and rates.
