The space Originally built in 1760 on North Main Street and moved in 1805 to its present location on Benefit Street, this is a treasured home along Benefit Street’s “Mile of History.” The exterior of the home has Greek Revival details while the interior boasts wide plank pine wood floors from 1760, five original fireplaces, and distinctive curved walls in the living room facing Benefit Street. The custom kitchen leads to a western-facing deck with breathtaking views of the Rhode Island State House and downtown Providence. The deck has two heaters and a grill for year-round use. The second floor is dedicated to the primary suite with a spacious primary bedroom, a stunning bath and shower, convenient laundry, and an office space that overlooks the State House. The third floor has two bedrooms with two queen beds and another full bathroom. The finished basement contains a Peloton and weights, a queen sleeper sofa, a full bathroom in the unfinished area, and a door that leads to the patio and perennial garden designed by a famous RISD landscape architect. The private garden, tiered water fountain, and comfortable outdoor seating below the deck offer a relaxing atmosphere amid the surrounding city. This home is on the National Registry of Historic Properties, a Providence Preservation Society plaque house, and was featured in a cover story for Colonial Homes magazine. Guest access The home has a keypad Yale lock on two doors for easy access and 24-hour check-in. We provide the access code after booking. It is within walking distance of downtown (.5 miles to WaterFire, .5 to Providence Place, .8 miles to Providence Performing Arts Center), Brown University (.5 miles), RISD (.4 miles), Whole Foods (.4 miles), Prospect Terrace Park (.3 miles) and Thayer Street (.8 miles). Also a short walk (.4 miles) to Providence Station (with easy access to/from NYC and to/from Boston - a 45 minute train ride to Boston), a 35-40 minute ride to Newport, Narragansett, and the beaches of Rhode Island, and 45 minutes to an hour to Cape Cod. One parking spot in the driveway and free street parking available. Other things to note We love hosting guests and warmly welcome all inquiries! *This is a three bedroom house with a queen sleeper sofa in the basement that can serve functionally as a fourth bedroom (there is a full bathroom in the basement). Also, you must pass through the second bedroom on the third floor to get to the third bedroom on the third floor* *This home was built in 1760 and so has all of the charms and quirks of an 18th century home. Slanted floors and narrow stairs are a part of this museum-piece from 1760. If guests have mobility issues they might find the second to third floor stairwell particularly challenging.
