Located in the picturesque Indian Point area of Lake Hebron in Monson Maine, our family friendly camp is a classic Northwoods Maine cabin and lakeside property in the Moosehead Lake region. The two-story heated cabin has rustic charm with modern comforts & amenities. The rental also includes two kayaks and a nice canoe, plus full access to our private lakeside area and dock just steps from the cottage. DETAILS ABOUT THE CAMP: The camp includes a historic cabin and lovely and serene adjacent lakeside property. The two-story cabin was the first to built on Lake Hebron in the late 1800s, and has been upgraded for modern comforts while still retaining its rustic charm. The cabin is just steps away from our dock on Lake Hebron, in a beautiful private grassy area nestled among the trees (located on an adjacent lot that is "catty corner" from the cottage). Our lake area includes lawn chairs and a fire pit. The dock is great for swimming or mooring your watercraft. We provide two Old Town kayaks and a nice canoe for use on the calm lake. Staying at our camp is a throwback to earlier times, with delicious fresh spring water provided via an antique hand-pumped well in front of the camp and running water inside. The heated cabin has a large country kitchen with a gas oven/stove. The large living room has an oversized fireplace that does a great job warming the camp on cool spring and fall nights. (We close it up in the winter.) The large wraparound porch includes a gas BBQ grill and a relaxing screened area. It's a pleasant walk to the quaint town of Monson or the nearby Appalachian Trail access, and a short scenic car ride to Moosehead Lake and the many other activities in the area, including waterfalls, hiking trails, farms, and nearby lakes and streams. Monson is a very friendly town, with several must-stop restaurants, a local pub/diner, antique stores, art galleries, and a new fully equipped general store with fresh fruits and veggies, fresh coffee, and a nice deli. The town is also home to the James Beard Award winning restaurant, The Quarry, which is run by chef Marilu Ranta, a Monson resident with international recognition. Monson has long been a stopover for hikers on the final leg of the 2,180 mile Appalachian Trail. It is one of only 21 officially recognized Appalachian Trail Communities along the trail, which stretches from Georgia to Maine. The ideal seasons to visit are late spring/early summer through mid-fall. Late spring is great for fishing and relaxing; summer is wonderful for swimming, hiking, fishing, kayaking, grilling, etc.; and early to mid-fall provides a quieter time to visit to soak in the beautiful fall colors, crisp weather, and peaceful tranquility of the lake. Lake Hebron is known by locals to be one of the most beautiful of the many Lakes in the area. Prior to your reservation date, I will provide the name and contact info for our local caretaker, directions to the cabin and instructions for getting key access. In addition to our local caretaker, you can always contact me (owner) by phone or text at any time as well. - David Finley 714-501-3676 The area has other camps with very friendly neighbors and guests. During the summer, the camp provides a great opportunity to meet other families on the neighboring docks. The camp is just a mile or two from the town of Monson, with several excellent restaurants and a wonderful pub right on the lake (The Lakeshore House) with a full bar, craft beers, and live music several nights a week from local musicians. We are just 13 miles from Moosehead Lake and the town of Greenville, with many more restaurants and shops and a well-stocked grocery store. CONSUMER ALERT: Please note that we do not run any online ads or listings outside this Airbnb ad and other dedicated brand name online vacation rental sites. We DO NOT run a free ad in CL so if you see an ad on that site with pictures or descriptions similar to this property, it is a scam and should be avoided. Thank you. NOTE FROM THE OWNER ABOUT PRIOR SHORT-NOTICE CANCELLATION (as referenced in 2019 review): Due to an inadvertent double booking of the property in 2019, I was forced to cancel a reservation for the first and only time in the many years I've rented the camp out. This was a one-time error due to a glitch in our calendaring system which is now corrected and fully synced with other external listings, so this will NOT occur again. In that case, we provided a full refund of all booking fees PLUS a $100 additional refund and we worked hard to help the cancelled party find an alternative rental property. Note that the guest did not provide a negative review -- this site automatically posts a review if a host cancels a reservation. You will note also that all of my other reviews are excellent. A NOTE ABOUT THE WATER - In 2022 we installed a deep well which furnishes clean, fresh water to the interior plumbing of the camp, including the kitchen and bathroom, sinks, shower, etc. The water has been tested multiple times and has been shown to be safe for drinking, bathing, washing, etc. Note that the well has tested a little high for iron, which is a natural mineral often found in deep wells and does not impact the safety of the water. However, the mineral can cause the water to have a slight odor at times especially after periods of non-use. While infrequent, if you ever notice any odd smell from the water in the taps, we recommend running for a few minutes, which usually clears up any odd mineral smell or taste. If desired, we also have a second shallow well just outside the front door (adjacent to the kitchen entrance), with a classic antique hand pump to draw fresh and clean drinking water. We provide a convenient water dispenser inside the kitchen for dispensing the fresh water. If you have any concerns about the water in the taps, feel free use the hand-pump well in front to collect fresh drinking water. Note that Maine requires an additional 9% lodging tax to all bookings. Guests will be billed separately for that tax since Airbnb does not include that tax in their rate information.
