Roan Mountain View Retreat near Appalachian Trail

Only two miles from Roan Mountain State Park (fly-fishing, swimming, hiking, music, etc.), 8 miles from Carver's Gap Trail Head on the Appalachian Trail, quiet, spacious, new mountain view retreat. Perfect for an extended family gathering. Close to NC Ski resorts, Watauga Lake (boating, swimming, fishing), Elk River Falls and all kinds of natural beauty, history and culture. Enjoy the view from the deck and listen to a symphony of dozens of birds! Barbecue, have a fire and see amazing stars. The space Our place has all the comforts of a large home. The finished space is 2,400 square feet. The floors are heated so each bedroom has it's own thermostat. Two washer/dryers will help. There is a garage for one car. There is an area next to the garage with a ping pong table. We have a fire pit near our house. You can have a campfire under the stars. In the wooded area below the house (to the side of the road) one guest built a fort your kids will love! Guest access The upper part of our road is VERY steep. If you have an AWD or 4WD vehicle, you will not have a problem driving up to our house. If your vehicle is not 4WD or AWD, you will not be able to drive all the way up to our house. Many hikers and skiers park at our turnaround and hike up the 500+ feet thru the trees. The first 400 feet is relatively easy. Other things to note We have a TV with Roku and a DVD player and lots of movies. We are kid friendly with toys, little beds in the master and a safety gate. On the garage level, we have a ping pong table and couch for relaxing. If you want to enjoy the birds, download on your phone the Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab. It allows you to identify birds by listening to them. It gives you pix, info and recordings.
