The space The house was originally known as the “Halfway House” which was a tavern and stopping point for the Erie and Ontario Railway. This was the first railway in Upper Canada (1839 - 1854) that consisted of a horse drawn railcar that carried people and goods from Queenston (below the Falls) to Chippawa (above the Falls), an 11 mile journey. When passengers reached the Halfway House, they disembarked temporarily into the tavern so that the exhausted horses could be switched after their long haul up the Niagara escarpment. In 1895 the house was rebuilt on (or with) the stone foundation of the original tavern. A lovely stone barn from the original railway still exists on the property. The house is a combination of fully modern amenities mixed with the flavor of it's early tavern past. *AN IMPORTANT NOTE: this property being located on an historic crossroads has become a major entry point into Niagara. As a result, street traffic can often be very busy during the day but quiets down nicely at night.
