Fantastic wineries, trails & redwoods are minutes away. 3 beaches & river park are only steps away The space This gorgeous property is located right on the Russian River and is very close to legendary wineries, redwoods, river beaches and Sonoma Coast beaches. A path in the backyard leads to an almost 1/4 mile long flat and wide beach. The property is 1.5 acres large, the house is 750sf small and the landscape is private, verdant and very sunny. The house has real character, simplicity and style. The wild riparian landscape is beautiful and lush. The neighborhood is quiet, diverse and a bit "eccentric". Many guests describe the property as a paradise that is "heavenly", "zen-like" and/or "magical". Many guests arrive with plans to go out and see the sights, but end up rarely leaving the house, because it is such a relaxing oasis. The house itself is light, airy, open, modern, warm, rustic, simple and serene. The decks are perfect for sipping wine, outdoor dining and soaking in the view. The beach is perfect for swimming, playing, boating (kayaks and canoe provided) and general basking. The yard is lush and private and full of fruit trees, grapevines, a hot tub, hammocks and a fire pit. This is a perfect romantic getaway or a place to indulge yourself while also thrilling your kids or dog (bring your own, or you can adopt one of our fosters). The house has dozens of windows, almost all with stunning views. Almost every detail is considered and the house has almost everything you might need. It is vastly different/better than a typical generic vacation rental. The house has striking custom built mid-century furniture, a very comfy queen bed with gourmet linens and a fully equipped serious kitchen w/gas cooktop and dishwasher. There is also a wood burning stove, an "audiophile" stereo with Bluetooth/Airplay, gigabit WiFi, TV/DVD/CD and Air Conditioning. The construction is sustainable; most of the house is comprised of vintage, salvaged, repurposed, sustainable and/or non (or less) toxic materials. Description (Special extended dance mix): The house opens to two decks (furnished with gas grill, dining tables and lounge chairs) overlooking the yard, the river and beyond. Moving outside, the house is framed by fruit trees (plum, apple, fig, pear, orange, etc), tomatoes, olive trees, hot tub, grape vines and bay laurels. Lounge chairs and a hammock surround a fire pit. Towards the river, the property is natural and wild- fertile riparian habitat- a grassy meadow with native trees. Descend the river bank punctuated with willows and draped by wild grapevines and you will arrive on the sand and pebble beach sculpted by the waters of the glorious Russian River. It really is a sweet spot. Half the beach is behind the house is private and empty. It has gorgeous views up and down the redwood-lined river valley framing the 19th century Hacienda Bridge. The other half is Hacienda Beach which is owned by the Neighborhood Association. This place is named after the first gringos to settle the area. They opened the Cosmo River Resort in the 1920's, and this property was where the cool kids hung out! The Russian River Valley is home to ducks, great blue herons, osprey, hawks, foxes, river otters, deer, mountain lions and and wild turkeys as well as salmon, steelhead, bass, sturgeon, hippies, hipsters and hillbillies. The property itself is very sunny (no redwoods), yet has numerous shade trees (with hammocks) for comfort in the summer. The air is scented with bay leaves, lemon balm, fennel, redwoods, mugwort and orange blossoms. Rumor is the founder of the Glade company spent her childhood summers here. Summer is hot and lush, but the river (and its afternoon breeze) is the perfect cooling temperature. The nights are cool all year round, which is why the local wine is so good (and so necessary!).The night skies are dark and dotted with stars- unless there is a full moon, which bathes the river in light and makes you wonder why the hell you would ever want to be anywhere else. This is also a lovely winter retreat. On winter mornings the sun rises through river fog wisping through the hills and between the redwoods; beautiful, but the river mist typically burns off by 10am leaving sun and clear skies. The river wells and rises and dramatically roars to life after winter rains. There is a hot tub (orange tree within arms reach), wood burning stove and outdoor fire pit to compliment the winter vibe. Guest access The house, the yard, the spa, the beach, the boats, the birds, the river, the neighborhood, the wineries, the redwoods, the hills, the night sky, the coast... Other things to note The house is quite small (although it is very open, so it feels spacious), therefore ideal for a couple (perhaps with a kid). It comfortably accommodates 3 people; 2 in the bedroom queen bed, and 1 (or 2) on the very very comfortable queen sofa bed. There is also a queen airbed that can accommodate another person or 2, but there is very limited floor space unless you sleep alfresco on the deck (great in summer). The house is tiny, so 4 humans sharing it is very very cozy and quite tight, but doable if you all like each other well enough. Bookings cannot start or end on a Saturday (this breaks up the weekend). Exception are made for longer stays. Dogs are welcome as long as they clean up after themselves, don't stain or destroy anything and don't annoy the neighbors. For stays 4 days or less, there is a $50 fee per dog. For stays of 5 days or longer, the fee is $100. The fee is per stay, not per day. The house is pet friendly- which means that there are often dogs in the house. The decks are sometimes trespassed upon by a neighborhood cat or 2, and an occasional racoon or crow. The house is thoroughly cleaned after each guest, but if you are allergic, you probably should not rent this house. Your loss, but it sure beats anaphylaxis.
