Escape to tranquility in this light-filled, newly remodeled one-bedroom guesthouse apartment on a grand old half-acre Spanish estate. Centrally located in Pasadena with easy freeway access, enter another world as you step under the estate's redwood, palm, and magnolia trees. Take the stairs to the apartment under a hundred-year-old olive tree. Enjoy the view from the sundeck, and dream away some hours on a hammock in the bamboo grove next to a fish pond, while listening to birds sing. The 412 square foot apartment is in its own building, separate from the estate's main house. It is up one flight of stairs, on the upper floor of a two-storey building. A hundred-year-old olive tree provides shade and privacy and just steps from your door, you will have your own little bamboo mini-forest nook to yourself. The living room extends out to a spacious sundeck with a view of the San Gabriel mountains. There is a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and sink. There is wifi and a TV with over a dozen Spectrum TV channels including major networks, sports, kids, and audio music stations. The Roku stick also offers the additional option to stream your own Netflix, Hulu, Sling, or other subscriptions. A hairdryer, iron, and ironing board are provided, as well as basic toiletries. Laundry facilities are available upon request. Please note: we have a strict NO SMOKING rule. The apartment has one bedroom with a small attached bathroom with a walk-in shower. The bed has a brand new Serta plush queen size mattress to accommodate up to two guests. The living room sofa pulls out into a queen-sized bed that can accommodate two guests. *We are located within walking distance of the end of the route for the famed Pasadena Rose Parade as well as the post-parade float viewing. The Rose Parade is held every January 1st (unless January 1st falls on a Sunday, in which case, the parade is on Monday, January 2nd). The float viewing is held immediately after the parade ends and into the following day. We do provide off-street parking in our driveway to guests. The parking area is on our property, outside of our gates. Please note that it is a fairly narrow driveway suitable for average-sized cars but a tight squeeze for larger than average vehicles such as oversized trucks. Guests are welcome to explore the west side of the estate which has a forest-like setting with a secluded bamboo grove, a fish pond, and many trees and plants. Host will be available on the estate most of the time, and by text all the time. Our friendly four-year-old basset hound, Malabar, may pop by to say hello from time to time. Easy self check-in is available. A gate code will be provided for access into the property and keys will be made available for the guests. Clear photo instructions will be sent to guests before their arrival date. Pasadena is a charming Spanish colonial town, just a little over 11 miles/18 km from downtown Los Angeles. It is easily accessible by freeway. We are located on Orange Grove Boulevard where many of Pasadena's stately old homes are. The Rose Bowl is 5 miles away, and on January 2nd every year, the Rose Parade parks its floats for viewing just a few blocks from us - it's an easy walk. We are 2 miles from Pasadena City College, 2.8 miles from Cal Tech, 7.9 miles from JPL (Jet Propulsion Labs/NASA). Old Town Pasadena is 4 miles away. Pasadena's Farmer's Market takes place every Saturday morning just 4 blocks away. While getting around by car is the most convenient way to move around, there are a number of places close enough to walk to, including a Saturday farmers market and several public parks. Bungalow Heaven is one mile away. There is plenty of daytime street parking in front of the property. Pasadena prohibits overnight (2am - 6am) parking on public streets so we provide overnight parking on the property. Many of our guests opt to use Uber or Lyft during their stay as we are centrally located in town and popular destinations such as the Rose Bowl, Huntington Museum and Gardens, and Old Town Pasadena are an inexpensive ride away. The east side of the estate is reserved for host's personal use but should guests need anything, host is easily reachable by text or phone call. Guests with young children should be aware that the 2-ft deep fish pond is not fenced. Additionally, host’s personal side of the estate includes an ungated pool. We have a strict non-smoking (cigarettes or other) rule. Out of respect for our neighbors, this includes out on the sundeck. We do provide off-street parking in our driveway to guests.
