Description
Our private gîte is nestled in our working organic Côte de Blaye, Bordeaux vineyard. A beautifully refurbished home with 5 bedrooms that comfortably sleeps 10 people. It includes a private garden, outdoor shower, plunge pool, terrace & BBQ area. The house is a short cycle to Blaye, we have bikes available at the property. Within easy reach are many things to explore - St. Emilion, the Medoc region, Arcachon & the Dune du Pilât, Aquitaine coastline and lakes, Cognac, Bordeaux city and much more! The space On the ground floor is also a generous TV/lounge room and one large bedrooom (there are five bedrooms in total) which can accommodate two singles or a double bed, depending on what your needs are. There is also a large bathroom downstairs with a bath and shower, plus a small toilet just off the kitchen/utility room. The double height kitchen and dining area on the ground floor is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge freezer and large gas oven and hob. There is a small utility room off the kitchen with a washing machine/dryer, microwave and freezer. In the kitchen there is a coffee machine and a toaster plus plenty of extra dishes, bowls and utensils to keep you going! The kitchen leads out to the generous veranda with a large dining table, bbq station, lounge area and sunbeds, plus a shower to cool off in the warmer months. Upstairs are four bedrooms (three doubles and one with two singles) plus two bathrooms and one separate toilet to comfortably accommodate everybody. There is central heating in all the rooms if necessary and an open fire in the kitchen/dining area for those visiting in the colder months. For younger visitors we have a fold away cot for babies if necessary plus a high chair, child friendly kitchen ware, toy box, sandpit and outdoor swing to keep them occupied! We are within easy driving distance (40-50 mins) of Bordeaux, St Emillion, and the beautiful Gironde. The open sea is a bit further at approximately 1hr 15mins to Royan, and similar to Arcachon and Lacanau. The car ferry crosses from Blaye to the Medoc regularly every day. Soulac-sur-Mer is a lovely seaside town worth a visit on the northern tip, just across the mouth of the estuary from Royan. We are available for any requests, and are very happy to give recommendations for restaurants and attractions in the area. We can also arrange wine tastings and possibly chateau visits depending on the time of year (for instance it’s not so easy to organise these during harvest in late Sept/Oct). The property is surrounded by our own vines and all around the immediate area there are dozens of vineyards. There is plenty of wildlife in the area and good cycling lanes and paths, including one handy cycle path not far from the house that goes from Blaye to Etauliers. Bordeaux airport is 55km away, taking between 50 and 60 minutes to drive (except in rush hour). A train service to Bordeaux centre is accessible at St-André-de-Cubzac which is a 25 minute drive if you’d rather avoid the motor way traffic (the motorway begins at St-André-de-Cubzac). A car is definitely a bonus in the area (we have an electrical car charging point at the vineyard) to experience what the region has to offer but Blaye is about a 30 minute walk or could be cycled in 15 minutes, give or take. We have four adult bikes with helmets and locks available at the house plus two children’s bikes suitable for children around 5/6 years old. There is an E. Leclerc supermarket within short walking distance, a Lidl just a little further up the road and a good Italian restaurant just across from the vineyard which is handy! This summer we have installed a 3m circular heated pool next to the terrace. The pool is made by Nadalié, our barrel providers, and sits above ground - its like a giant plunge pool! The pool is open late May to September. There is also a firepit in the garden available to the guests. We don't charge for cleaning the house at the end of your stay, but we do expect the property to be left as you found it, otherwise there will be a cleaning fee of 100 euros. Guest access Free ample parking at the house and an electric vehicle charger Other things to note The house is situated on our working vineyard, called Chateau Magdeleine-Bouhou. We also have a small distillery which is in it's infancy on the winery grounds, called Two Origins Distillery. We are currently making Whiskey and Gin. Lastly, we have a second vineyard called Château Puynard about 5 minutes away by car (or about an hours walk on the quieter roads). Tastings can be arranged - just let us know!
