Description
This characterful stone cottage with parking is in the heart of one of the most picturesque villages in Eryri/Snowdonia National Park, Dolgellau. Set in a quiet courtyard, it's a short walk to cosy pubs and places to eat. Dolgellau is a quaint village in a peaceful and unspoilt area of the National Park. The stylishly refurbished traditional Welsh cottage is a comfortable base to explore. Walks from the door up Cader Idris, the Mawddach Trail and beaches a short drive. Fast WiFi and parking. The space Located just off the main town square in a quiet courtyard, the little stone cottage has a fantastic central location in the historic and handsome village of Dolgellau. You are just a few steps away from cafes, excellent restaurants and welcoming pubs. There are also many walks into the mountains from your door. Your dog is welcome too! The Grade II Listed Victorian cottage is cosy, compact and stylishly decorated with colourful vintage touches and a new, sparkling kitchen and bathroom. Walk in through a small room with a dining table and chairs. Make yourself at home in a comfortable arm chair and plan your days out with the local maps provided. There is central heating for instant warmth in every room. To the right is a snug lounge with a sofa and easy chair. If you’re not popping into town to eat out, the large digital TV means you can relax after a day out exploring and log into your Netflix or the i-Player. There’s good WiFi and a table to work on too if you need to stay connected. You will see some of the vintage 70s ceramics made by the owners' Dad on the colourful Welsh dresser and around the house. The big Victorian bay window looks over the street to the pretty stone cottages opposite. The modern kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge, full sized oven with electric hob, washing machine and tumble dryer. There’s also a microwave, a cafetière and food mixer. Whether you’re preparing a lazy breakfast, picnic lunch or special meal you’ll find all the cooking utensils you need here. The new bathroom is on the ground floor with a bath and overhead rain shower. A steepish and narrow flight of stairs leads to two bedrooms. There are 11 steps and the stairs have a bit of a twist at the bottom. The double bedroom has a bay window looking across the slate rooftops of Dolgellau to the surrounding hills. The double bed has a deep mattress and crisp cotton bed linen. There are upcycled bedside tables and lights on each side of the bed. The second bedroom has one single bed and plenty of storage space. The large window looks across to the Listed stone buildings opposite and fills the room with plenty of light. Guests with children should note that there is a door but no stair gate between the bedrooms and the steep stairs. People with mobility issues may find these stairs between the bedrooms and bathroom challenging. For this reason we do not recommend the cottage for families with toddlers or those who find stairs a challenge. A travel cot and high chair are available on request. There is a parking space by the cottage suitable for one car. It's a little narrow so you may find it easier to drop your luggage at the cottage and then park further up the road where there are usually spaces for free on street parking. However most guests manage to park by the cottage. There's enough space to pop a patio table and chairs outside near the front door to enjoy watching the world go by, but no private outdoor space. Well behaved dogs are welcome if responsible owners are happy to walk their dog a few hundred metres through quiet and safe streets to the woods. Dog friendly beaches 15 minutes drive. Enjoy walks from the door. Hike into the hills and climb Cader Idris. Take the Mawddach Trail to a picturesque pub, continue to the seaside fun of Barmouth and hop on a bus back. Wander through bluebell woods to the scenic Precipice Walk. Nearby you'll find the mountain bike and running trails at Coed y Brenin. Take a drive to Bala for water sports on Llyn Tegid. You can hire paddle boards and kayaks. Head to Harlech Castle or take a ride on steam trains through spectacular scenery. Portmeirion Italianate village and gardens is 40 minutes away. Other local attractions include the Mach Loop, Zip World adventures, and stunning walks for all abilities. Guest access Guests have exclusive access to all the cottage. The drive is shared with other properties so please note the parking instructions for your car.
