Description
Just one block from downtown, Glen Helen Nature Preserve, Antioch College, and the bike trail, this newly remodeled space full of natural light will be the perfect basecamp to explore our quaint village… or to simply do nothing and relax. The Yellow Springs Village Cabin is crisp and clean like a hotel, with space, character, and amenities like a well-appointed home. It’s a quiet, comfortable retreat with easy access to everything YS has to offer. Plus, a pool (~May-Oct) and year-round hot tub! The space ABOUT THE SPACE Affectionately called “the Cabin,” this original barn (likely from the 1850s) was remodeled into a rustic pottery studio in the 1990s and we reimagined it as a place to host friends and get away without having to leave town. We’ve left several original details and sought a modern hygge vibe that reminds us of our favorite things about all four seasons. The Cabin is a great place to spend some time, no matter the weather. You’ll enter the main room and immediately feel the positive energy from oversized windows, skylights, and simple decor that’s bright and warm. Slip off your shoes and come on in to a living room with a deep sectional couch ready for reading, watching any of your streaming services on the 55" TV (we also have a YouTube TV subscription for "cable"-type shows, live sports, etc.), or listening to your favorite music on Sonos speakers. We've also got a big selection of magazines and board games, plus a Nintendo/SNES combo and a Playstation 4. Across from the living room in one open space, the kitchen is set up by people who cook and we promise you won’t have to cut with any dull knives :). With beautiful white quartz countertops, a 9-foot-wide picture window, 2 skylights, an induction stove, and a just-right-sized island for a quick breakfast or a romantic dinner — we think you’ll agree this space is fantastic. We keep it stocked with some basic foodstuffs — salt, spices, etc. — and have all the main appliances you’d expect (coffee maker, toaster, blender, tea kettle, etc.). Large sliding glass doors open from the main room into a 3 season room that has an indoor/outdoor couch, coffee table, and a small table. With nearly 20 feet of glass windows and doors that open to the patio and pool, you can be as outside as you want to be. The glass doors have curtains — as do all the other openings — to ensure you're privacy, while skylights ensure well-lit space at all times. The bathroom (also downstairs) is an open, modern space that feels like a spa. The luxurious 6’x6’ shower area has a rain shower head on one side and a handheld wand option on the other. We have heated floors and tons of natural light from a skylight. The front-lit, anti-fog, dimmable mirror and modern vanity will make this a great place to get ready for a big wedding or just to feel your best for a lazy afternoon. Stocked with a hair dryer, iron, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Brooklinen towels and bath robes, and laundry room access, it has everything you need and just about anything you’d want. Upstairs, the attic bedroom is spacious and cozy at the same time. There is plenty of light from custom windows and a skylight, a new Casper king-sized bed (recommended by Consumer Reports) with top notch linens and pillows, and another TV and more Sonos speakers if you want to spend all day in bed. With more board games and a Super Nintendo, feel free to laze around on the plush carpet. There’s a ceiling fan, noisemaker, and blackout blinds if you need them and the vault of the original roof makes for a beautifully symmetrical space. Last but not least, if you’re coming to Yellow Springs, you probably love the outdoors. We do too! When you walk up the driveway, you’ll enter the fenced yard and walk about 100’ back to the Cabin and 30’x14’ heated, fiberglass pool. The pool is outfitted with an auto-cover to keep the leaves out and the heat in. It's now open for 2025 and we expect to be open through late September or early October (the exact dates are dependent on the weather, but for context: we have opened between 5/3-13 and closed between 10/13-17 in our first 4 years - the year we will close the pool the week of 10/13). Towels are provided. Plus, just steps from the main Cabin entrance or the pool, surrounded by bamboo, there is a 4-person hot tub that is open all-year round. At the patio, you'll find a teak dining table and chairs, an outdoor sectional couch, and outdoor Sonos-connected speakers. While there are neighbors on all sides of the property, they’re no closer than in just about any part of the Village, and you’ll find this to be a quiet neighborhood with few distractions. 2 of the 3 neighbors are rarely in town and the other place is set back and possibly the most iconic home in Yellow Springs, so it's easy on the eyes! Oh, and we have 2 canoes and a kayak you're welcome to borrow, just let us know and we'll figure out the details. OTHER DETAILS & DISCLAIMERS Two adult guests is the maximum. The Cabin is not child or infant-friendly and we don't allow pets/fur-babies. We made exceptions in the past but had issues, so unfortunately we stick to these boundaries. No parties. No firearms. We take maintaining our property, and the safety of our family and neighbors, seriously. We live here now and intend to for the rest of our lives, so we appreciate everyone helping maintain this space now and for the future. We have made every attempt to create a peaceful retreat, but it should be said that things do come up. Living so close to nature, sometimes a limb comes down or something dies, ants beat the exterminator, or we get so much rain that we can't keep the grass just so. In the neighborhood, there might be noise from someone mowing or doing a small project (there are currently no large renovations or builds happening anywhere within earshot). Things do break in the Cabin now and then. Any time there's an issue we will do everything we can to work it out ASAP and we work hard to keep any intrusions at a bare minimum. Hopefully you can see from our reviews that we're easy-going, responsive people who communicate effectively. The chances of your stay being nearly perfect are very high, and if anything comes up, we can promise we'll do whatever it takes to make things right. Guest access The Yellow Springs Village Cabin, lovingly renovated by local contractor Spencer Building Group, is meant to be a place where you can retreat and refresh. We’re literally steps from basically all of Yellow Springs’ most visited places — historic downtown Yellow Springs, the Glen Helen Nature Preserve (which connects to John Bryan State Park and Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve), the Little Miami Scenic (bike) Trail, and Antioch College. No matter why you're visiting, you’ll find this is a great place to spend some time — and we have a well-curated manual to help direct you to the best restaurants and things to do both in YS and in the region. Parking is always easy. Other things to note We travel for privacy too so it's something we tried to be very conscientious about in designing the Cabin. It is set up so that no one can see in any opening if that's your preference, but with the skylights (which you can also close — they're blackout upstairs but let light in downstairs) you can still have lots of natural light even with all the shades drawn. Every piece of glass has a covering of some kind. Downstairs, the door is obscure glass (still let's light in but you can't see through it) and all the shades — including the shades for the sliding doors — let light in but cannot be seen through. Upstairs, there are blackout shades and for the round window (which is hard to find a good shade for!) there's a blackout stick-on covering that you put on if you want to. We won't be in the yard and you probably won't see us much or at all. But, there is some routine work, especially landscaping, mowing, and pool maintenance, that we have to do. We'll always message you before coming back into your space, we'll never bother you early or late in the day. We'll do everything we can to make intrusions as quick and quiet as possible, but some things just have to be done.
