This unique and stylish annexe is part of the historic Ponden Hall, a house enjoyed by the Brontë sisters and the inspiration for Thrushcross Grange in Wuthering Heights as well as Wildfell Hall! Right on the Pennine Way, and only a short walk from a number of popular Brontë landmarks, such as Top Withens or Brontë falls, this space is ideal for walkers, Brontë fanatics or anyone wanting to enjoy the beauty of West Yorkshire. The space THE KITCHEN AND THE LIVING AREA Luxuriously set within old stone walls and a vaulted, beamed ceiling, the Peat House has a large open plan kitchen with amenities such as an oven, microwave and dishwasher. The living space comprises of two leather sofas, a large television and a range of curiosities of the local area, including local wildlife guides and Brontë literature. The room is spacious and comfortably warmed by underfloor heating. It is said that, as children, the Brontës sheltered here from the Crow Hill bog burst in 1874! MASTER BEDROOM The two bedrooms are below the living space, and are cosily nestled in grey stone walls. The master bedroom contains a double bed, cupboard space with coat hangers, and an ensuite bathroom, with a bath and shower attachment. SECOND BEDROOM The second bedroom contains two single beds (that can be also be joined to make a king sized bed) plus an ensuite bathroom with a walk in shower. THE GARDEN There is a small gravelled garden to the left of Ponden Hall front door , up some stone steps , which is available for guests to use. This seating area is elevated so that it enjoys views of the lake through the trees, and is the perfect place to enjoy the (rare!) Yorkshire sunshine. LOCAL AREA On the doorstep of many fantastic walks, The Peat House is well placed for those who enjoy the Pennine way, or the Brontë way. There is an abundance of beautiful views and wildlife, with birdwatching opportunities both on the moors and around the lake. The Peat House is also a short drive from historic towns such as Howarth (home of many quaint cafes and the Brontë parsonage) and Hebden Bridge, which hosts a wide range of quirky shops and restaurants (Marcos Pizza is our favourite!) There is also a brilliant pub, The Silent Inn, which is only a short drive/ walk from the House. GENERAL The Peat House is ideal for up to 4 guests. Guest access There is parking available, turn immediately right past Ponden Hall front entrance and park directly outside the cream painted bannisters,the Peat House can be accessed through the door at the top of the steps . Other things to note Watch out for some chunky pot holes locally!
