Cairn Cottage is nestled in a private setting of Juniper and Pinyon Pine on a 70 acre family farm (vegies, farm fresh eggs, goats and chickens). From the peaceful setting your view down the valley is the town of Mancos 1 mile away. Cairn Cottage is very comfy and artistically appointed. Full kitchen and bathroom with shower and clean easy to use composting toilet. The living space has a king bed and a full size pull out bed, recliner, dining table, wood stove for heat and a large deck. Cairn cottage is very unique. The working part of the farm is roughly 1/4 mile from the cottage and encompasses a small part of the 70 acres. You have a lot of room to hike and explore or just hang out. Approaching Cairn Cottage, you cross Chicken Creek which is very shallow and easy to cross most of the year. ( Please see photos taken June 2019 which was a very large snow year). If you do not want to drive across, you can park your car at the creek and your host will shuttle you up. There are foot bridges crossing the creek or you can just walk across it. Cairn Cottage is very close to the creek up "Cairn Way" . Added bonus is the Green Table Farm 9 hole Disc golf course for your exclusive use during your stay. Arriving at Cairn Cottage you will immediately embrace the quiet private setting. Walking in the French doors you will see a well appointed kitchen with a full size stove and oven, solar fridge and freezer, large butcher block table for dining, a king sized bed, sofa that turns into a full bed, a wood burning stove and recliner. Behind the barn door is the bathroom. Condiments, spices, Coffee, tea and cocoa are also provided. The beds and furniture were selected with comfort and functionality in mind. It is an open floor plan that is very light and airy with large windows. Cairn Cottage utilizes solar electric power for the LED lights, outlets and ceiling fan. Propane is used for the stove and on demand hot water. The water supply is city water. The living space can be warmed by a wood stove with a custom hearth using rocks from the farm (look for heart shaped rocks in the hearth). There are artistic touches throughout. The large deck is great for outdoor dining, relaxing, star gazing and spotting deer up in the large field. It has a BBQ and chairs and overlooks the large fire pit (marshmallow sticks provided). The outdoors is illuminated with solar LED lights. Look for the ghost tree up in the field. Upon request we will provide farm fresh produce, eggs and pork products at an additional cost. Thanks for checking us out. Entire cottage and non working farm space. If you have a dog, please respect the farm animals. The goats and pig are in fenced areas but the chickens are free range. There is also a friendly Peacock and farm ducks. And as noted a 9 hole Disc Golf Course. Our farm house is on the property roughly 1/2 mile from Cairn Cottage. Your setting is private and we respect that. We are here to help with local knowledge or other needs. Mancos is a cute farm town 7 miles from Mesa Verde national park. Mancos has several very good restaurants a brewery and a cidery. Some great art galleries and super nice residents. 30 minutes to Durango, 15 minutes to Cortez, 15 minutes to popular Phil's World mountain biking and 2 hours to Telluride. One mile to town and great hiking all around. As noted, there is a shallow Creek crossing to get to Cairn Cottage. Also, the roads throughout the farm are dirt and gravel. it is not recommended to tow any trailer up to Cairn Cottage as turn around spots are limited. It is about 1/3 mile from the highway to Cairn Cottage. There could be afternoon thunder showers from mid July through September and early October. This is typical for SW Colorado. This may impact the farm road to the cottage. If the road becomes too muddy for vehicle travel we will transport your belongings to the cottage and personally escort you up. No worries, our soil drains exceptionaly fast and the afternoon rains make for super clean Air. This is just a heads up to avoid any misunderstanding. Thanks
