Sheep have always been a large part of Wyoming's livestock industry. In the early days it was common for sheep herders to spend long periods of time in the hills away from home. Sleeping bags provided. Outdoor Cowboy Breakfast served in the morning. Big Quiet Camping is a real, western camping experience. Please be fully aware that you are coming to immerse yourself in true Rocky Mountain camping experience. Our Location Located just 3 miles east of historic Heart Mountain in The Big Horn Basin of WYOMING, lies Big Quiet Camping within the 450 Organic acres of Common Ground Farms. This farm is one of the only USDA certified organic Farms in the state of Wyoming, and is also home to Rocky Mountain Organic Meats. The Land Gaze across thousands acres of beautiful grassland and sagebrush and witness the natural wonders that brought many Native Americans to Heart Mountain to harness its healing energy. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in a Cowboy or Native American camping experience then come to Big Quiet Camping. Enjoy the big starry skies, untamed lands and the rich cultural history of the Big Horn Basin. Your children will enjoy the Family Adventure of sleeping outside under the stars and planets of the Milky Way. And at the same learn about food and where it comes along with the effort it takes to raise food and process it. Accommodations Restrooms - Our Restrooms are similar to Restrooms in the National Forest. Well ventilated Mens and Womens Outhouse. Showers - Our on demand hot water Shower is located in a 10'x 10' Range Tent within our camping area. It features cedar flooring, and a washbasin for your hygienic needs. Activities They say the best part of camping is sitting around the campfire at night; Wide open skies above you, the sound of coyotes howling in the distance. That stuff is real, not just fiction made up in spaghetti westerns, and that's why we have built a communal fire pit. Come on down and bring your harmonica, ukulele, guitar, djembe, or dobro! If staying up late and burning the midnight oil around the fire isn't your thing there are numerous other activities on the ranch to partake in. We have a horseshoe pit, numerous hiking and mountain bike trails nearby, and you can also take a tour of the ranch and learn a little bit about where our nation's food really comes from. We have over 250 acres of land surrounded by thousands of public land that is open to explore! You have access to Heart Mountain for day hikes, elevation at the top 8,200 feet. The views are worth the effort. For the consideration of the other campers enjoying Big Quiet Camping please try to arrive and check in before 7pm. Farm-To-Table Food All guest’s will receive a fresh cooked breakfast in the morning! As an organic ranch, we believe that respectful and sustainable food production is one of the most important things we can do to help solve our world's health and energy problems. We raise our animals in a humane setting that allows them the freedom they were meant to have from birth; wide open spaces and native vegetation. Our garden of various foods are grown without any pesticides or chemicals, and are planted, weeded, and harvested all by hand. We believe that everyone should know where their food comes from. Get a taste of the real American West in the place founded by the one-and-only "Buffalo Bill" Cody. We encourage you to travel to Cody or Powell to immerse yourself in modern western culture as it exists today. There is no public transportation. We will have horse rides starting in May. Guests are welcome to bring mountain bikes. We are in a safe outdoor environment. NO BEARS, NO WOLVES. Breakfast begins at 7:00 AM and ends at 8:00 AM YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE. Shaded cooking and setting area is provided. Cots and sleeping bags provided. One firewood bundle is provided to guests for each night camping. Guided trips are also available.
