The space Located on the scenic Turquoise Trail, at the Garden of the Goddess Retreat Center is 15 miles south of Santa Fe, and only 5 miles north of up from great cafes and the artsy town of Madrid. (GPS only gets you here on G. maps --I am not allowed to spell that G word out for some reason-- , but there are detailed directions on the site once you book that you can follow carefully.) The property was held for sacred purpose for millennia by native people and is famous in northern New Mexico for its unique rock outcroppings in an oasis environment. This adobe guesthouse is nestled against a giant sandstone wall in the center of the retreat compound. It is two story and offers one bedroom, one ceramic tiled shower and toilet and one gorgeous, multi-purpose, handcrafted sink. The space can accommodate up to 3 people with a queen bedroom upstairs, and double and queen futon sofas downstairs in the common area but there is not enough privacy for two adult couples. The open floor plan has large windows to bring in light and is designed with great air flow in mind, hence there is no door that separates the common area from the stairs or entry to the top floor. Features include an efficiency kitchen area with refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, induction cooking set, electric frying pan, blender, electric tea kettle and Keurig coffee maker in the downstairs living area. (The kitchenette is NOT set up to prepare or cook traditional family meals! However their is a community kitchen that is available if you want to get your chef on. Electric heaters keep you cozy on cold nights and a portable air-conditioner and fans keep you cool until the sun goes down in the summer when the night breezes take over. One easygoing, non-barking, house-broken, small to medium sized, clean dog (ONE!) is allowed if you keep him/her with you at all times, keep off the furniture, or use furniture covers, don't leave unattended and scoop up after on (ALWAYS) leashed walks. DOGS THAT ARE NOT FRIENDLY TO OTHER DOGS OR HUMANS ARE NOT WELCOME. Please let us know your pup will be coming with you! ABSOLUTELY NO CATS ALLOWED! We are nestled in behind huge rocks so we do not have general cell phone coverage. We DO HAVE an extender that provides reception for Verizon (and affiliates.) We have WiFi. The pass code is available in the note to guests when you check in. The property is peaceful and generally quiet, but there are 4 other folks who live in the compound so you may hear footsteps or an in-occasional whoop when the bats migrate through, or a baby great horned owl or road runner appear--very exciting things to us country dwellers. We don't generally host parties but a small gathering is POSSIBLE once or twice a year. There is also the possibility of hearing faint bits of conversation from an outside sitting area when guests may be visiting one of the other residences. While it is our intention to always be respectful of others, the property has to be maintained and so the quiet may also be broken by brief interludes with groundskeepers or other necessary repair or delivery folks. This garden oasis in the high dessert is ready to greet your next visit to New Mexico with open arms. Come and explore the enchanted beauty of the Santa Fe ! We'd love to host you! Guest access Beyond your own guest house, there is an enormous "back yard" behind the rock outcroppings that has many fascinating sites of sand stone formations with paths for gentle exploration. Please be mindful of where you are walking as we share the land with numerous critters from great horned owls to bunnies and lizards etc. These beings are not aggressive to those not in their food chain and some enjoy sunbathing, so watch that you don't step on a lounger and scare both yourselves! Please do not climb on the rocks as the sand stone is not sturdy. Other things to note Smoking IS NOT WELCOME any place on the property!!! Parking: After you unload, please part your vehicle in one of the parking areas. If it is snowing, and you have to be able to get out, please park your vehicle by the front gate as it is not usually possible to get the ranch plowed in a timely manner.
