Newly built, chalet-style log home featured in both Cabin Living and Log Cabin Homes Magazines. Sweeping mountain and sunset views. Modern, Scandinavian decor. Generous front deck and covered porch for sunbathing, stargazing and outdoor dining in the summer and fall. Soaring stone fireplace makes for a warm, fully-appointed ski lodge in the winter months. 5 minutes from Cannon and 20 minutes from both Loon and Bretton Woods. Miles of National Forest trails out the back door. Chosen for the Fall Edition of Cabin Living Magazine in 2016 as well as the November 2020 issue of Log Cabin Homes, Bear Ridge Lodge fuses the rustic beauty of the White Mountains with minimalist, Scandinavian design themes to create a truly calming and natural retreat. The interior includes luxurious rain fall showers, generous lighting, a relaxing library and reading loft along with a newly finished Family Room complete with seven speaker, immersive home theater for movie nights, a workspace with high speed, Starlink internet, and a board game area complete with a children's library. Guests have access to the whole home, including generous closet space in each bedroom. Two closets are reserved for the owners’ storage and cleaning supplies. Although the basement is not yet completely finished, washer and dryer are both easily accessible, in addition to ample space for baggage, outdoor gear, etc... Although my wife and I do not live on the premises and will most likely not be close by during your stay, I am available through the airbnb instant messaging system at any time to assist with questions about the house or with dining or recreation suggestions for the area. On occasion, we make use of the garage below the house, and are available to answer questions or help with tasks like restocking firewood or shoveling snow, but won’t otherwise disturb your stay. Bear Ridge Lodge borders the White Mountain National Forest along Park View Drive in the Coppermine village of Franconia. The Coppermine trail to Bridal Veil Falls, the most popular hike west of the notch, is a short stroll from the house, and Franconia Notch State Park and Cannon Mountain, some of the top winter and summer destinations in New England, are only a ten minute drive from the property. Although the road and driveway are plowed regularly in the winter, 4WD is the only way to ensure access in the winter months, especially since storms and icy conditions can develop very quickly in the mountains. In addition, a short but severe mud season based on temperatures can make high clearance necessary in the Coppermine neighborhood during the Spring. Hiking trails and x-country ski trails are accessible from the neighborhood, but a car is essential for visiting most of the White Mountains’ most popular sites. A variety of challenging mountain biking trails, along with several fantastic road bike loops, are available directly from the house. Internet: Internet: Starlink high speed internet access is now available at the Lodge, providing consistent download speeds between 100 and 300 mbps. Enjoy seamless remote work and unlimited HD media streaming. All of your streaming accounts are available using any of the Lodges 3 screens, including the Home Theater on the ground floor -- no additional hardware needed. Variable Road Conditions: Snow: Although Parkview Drive and the driveway to Bear Ridge are plowed after every storm, sand is applied only when the road becomes severely iced over. Four wheel drive is the only way to ensure easy access to the house during a storm, but the average car with all-season or snow tires can easily make it up the plowed driveway in normal conditions. Mud: When heavy rain combines with warm temperatures in the winter and Spring, the town roads leading to the house can quickly go from smooth to a muddy mess. All wheel drive and high clearance can be very important in these conditions. Please monitor local weather and contact Dave if you are worried about Mud conditions, as these can be difficult to predict. Accessibility: There is a steep climb (30 landscaping steps) from the parking area/garage to the house. The steps can become icy and snow-covered in the winter, requiring extreme caution, and can make carrying luggage and groceries a harder than average task in any season. In addition, although we do our best to shovel, salt and sand the steps after major storms, we also leave a shovel, sand and salt next to the garage lockbox that guests are free to use as they deem necessary. Landscaping / Outdoor Space: Based on information and reviews from previous guests, we have made the decision to allow the lawn and wildflowers to grow over the summer months, ensuring that wildlife, birds and butterflies are attracted more readily to the area. Although we maintain some small sections surrounding the a campfire area behind the house and along the driveway, the lawn is geared toward nature enthusiasts rather than those seeking a perfectly manicured outdoor environment. Wildlife: As our name for the house suggests, families of Black Bears have always favored the neighboring ravine and often wander into the yard during the summer when things are quiet. They rarely approach the house and have never posed a threat, but are good to be aware of, especially when making sure to bring in any food or garbage at night. Moose, Deer, porcupine, rabbits and even the occasional bobcat, along with a wide variety of birds, are always present in and around the national forest.
