Wedgetaildown Accommodation "Into the Wild"

Wedgetaildown Accommodation is located within the privately owned Kangaroo Island Wildlife Sanctuary situated on the Eleanor River. It is a place where the earth itself forms part of the rammed earth walls and where repurposed materials within the architecturally designed structure exude character and commitment to the landscape. Wedgetaildown is a place were you can forget the humdrum of your busy life, it is a place where you could believe that you are the only people left on earth. The space The Guest House is a beautiful and self-contained architectural build of rammed earth sourced from the property and seventy percent of the building materials are repurposed in keeping with Wedgetaildown's conservation efforts. The land's biodiversity is similar to what it was a quarter of a century ago and we have only enhanced this by planting hundreds of Sheoak, the primary food source of the rare and endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo. You will enjoy walking through the Sanctuary much of which has still never seen a human being. Guest access The Eleanor River travels through Wedgetaildown and there is access to many kilometres of this river. It is best to plan this outing and perhaps let your hosts know which direction you will take. They will be pleased to advise you of bushwalking requirements and any other questions you may have. Other things to note Wedgetaildown is centrally located on the island which means that your day trips, should you wish to explore the island further, are all relatively close to your guesthouse. Wedgetaildown Sanctuary is located approximately 2 kilometres inland from Gregors Road. Details and directions will be provided to you following your booking.
