As your hosts, we will name a few of our favourites. From every window in Mountview Farmstead you will be able to enjoy a spectacular view alongside the Great Dividing Range: Mt Frazer, Mt French, Mount Edwards, Mount Grenville, Main Range National Park, Spicers Gap (& restaurant), Mount Cordeaux, and Mount Mitchell. There is a magic about this coveted location, that stirs in the heart of the nature lover. One of the best ways to explore this stunning region is on foot, and there are walks to suit most abilities. Local amenities in Aratula (which is an 8-minute drive from Mountview Farmstead) include: • Arthur Clive’s Bakery Café, which is very well known throughout the Scenic Rim for their traditional bread, delicious pies, decadent cakes and pastries. They serve their own special blend of Grinders coffee which is perfected by their baristas. OPENING HOURS: Mon-Fri 6am-4pm; Sat-Sun 6am-5pm. • The Aratula Markets is a one-stop for visitors and locals to stock up on essentials. They stock Moffatt Fresh Produce (which is farmed from the properties surrounding Mountview), The Fruit Factory jams, the Butcher Co. meat, dairy products from 4Real Milk and lavender products from Scenic Rim Lavender, along with a wide range of fresh fruit, vegetables and other grocery items from the Scenic Rim, the Granit Belt and beyond. OPENING HOURS: Mon, Thurs, Fri 7am-3pm; Sat-Sun 7am-5pm. • Scenic Rim Tavern which has been recently refurbished offers a good range of pub style meals, and also has a bottle shop. There are plans for a children’s playground in the near future. • Several Major Service Stations stock basic groceries and household necessities, supplies, firewood. They also provide dine-in and takeaway meals.   PLACES - TO - VISIT • Brisbane CBD is 1hr 10min away. • The bustling rural township of Boonah is 20 minutes away. Boonah is the closest major town to Aratula. Boonah’s High Street has all the shopping you will need when visiting the region, including: Maynard’s Store, Duck Junction, Boonah Jewellery and Gifts, The Story Tree, numerous Café’s, a choice of local pubs (Dugandan Hotel has a playground for the kids), and a large IGA. • The historical Kalbar township is 15 minutes away. Here you can experience shopping that is a treasure trove of handcrafted delights (Beary Special Crafts), interesting decorator items (BMK Collective) an antique store that has recently opened. Kalbar also has a great selection of eateries including the Royal Hotel Kalbar, Lovett Cafe, and the Smokehouse. You may also grab a wider selection of groceries at the Kalbar Spar Express, medical necessities at the Kalbar Pharmacy, and try a selection of local gourmet meats from the The Butcher Co. • Kooroomba Vinyards and Lavender Farm is a southern France experience nestled in the Fassifern Valley at Mt Alford near Boonah. The property consists of a cellar door, restaurant and lavender shop which overlook a six-hectare vineyard and a breathtaking lavender field with magnificent views of the Scenic Rim mountains. Book ahead for lunch (Modern Australian cuisine) or drop in for casual bar menu dining and wine tasting. Ensure you call ahead before visiting, as this is a very popular wedding venue and closes to the public when hosting a wedding. • Scenic Rim Brewery & Cafe is in the picturesque town of Mt Alford. It is a small family owned brewery (part brewery, part café). This place has something for everyone. Even those who are not beer lovers may just change their mind after trying a beer tasting platter (I know I did!). Wendy’s Dutch heritage shines through in her home style cooking, which pairs perfectly with the range of beer offered. Patrons can sit inside the charming, (heritage listed) old world space or on the back deck overlooking the rolling hills and countryside. As this venue is only small, it is advisable to call ahead to book a table (even if you are only stopping in for a beer – 5463 0412). • Bunjurgen Estate Vineyard is about 25 minutes’ drive from Mountview Farmstead. Our good friend/amazing host, Dave, will greet you at the cellar door and provide you with a taste of his great wines (made from the grapes that are grown on his magnificent property). Dave can also tell you everything you know about the area. Bring along your own picnic if you wish to relax and enjoy a snack while trying Dave’s sensational wines. NOTE: Cellar door sales are currently suspended until 4/02/22 due to COVID-19, but the online shop is still open. • Scenic Rim Farm Shop & Café: This is one of our favourite places to visit, particularly in the months when the Jacaranda Trees are in bloom (late spring through summer). The coffee is amazing, and the stunning meals are prepared by Kate Raymont (known for championing local ingredients with her flavourful wholesome food) using all fresh local produce. The menu is updated regularly (due to what is in season) and is very affordable. While there you can stock up on fresh produce and specialty items (I recommend taking home a lasagne for dinner), along with visiting the neighbouring Elderflower Farm’s garden shop for fresh cut flowers (grown on site) and a selection of beautiful home décor/garden goodies. This is a place I visit whenever our family are out at our farm. There is plenty of room for the kids to run around and explore, kick a ball and wander the flower gardens. Small dogs (on a leash) are welcome. OPENING HOURS: Fri-Sun 8.30am-4pm. Bookings are not required, but advisable for groups of 6 or more. • You can experience degustation at it's very best when visiting The Peak Restaurant Maryvale (Spicers Peak Lodge) and Homage Restaurant (Spicers Hidden Vale) which are both within an hour drive from Mountview Farmstead. The drive offers beautiful scenery. Please note that these venues are not particularly child friendly (my nan’s expression “children should be seen and not heard” comes to mind), so we would recommend you organise a babysitter if you choose to dine here. Bookings are essential. • The Overflow Estate 1895 Wyaralong is an historic grazing property located approx. 40 minutes from Mountview Farmstead and fronts the Wyralong Dam boasting approximately 12km of waterfront land. Perfect place to enjoy great wine, delicious food, stunning location. Wednesday, Thursday Frida 1100-1400 full wine tasting options with limited menu including cheese and antipasto boards, desserts and coffee. Saturday and Sunday 1000-1600 full menu available. Live music EVERY Saturday and Sunday 1200-1600. Bookings are essential. • Bloom Restaurant Boonah is an intimate 20-seat destination restaurant in the heart of the Scenic Rim which offers seasonal fresh food made from local ingredients. Lunch 12-2pm, Late lunch 3pm Friday-Saturday, Dinner 6pm Friday and Saturday. Bookings are essential. • Summer Land Camels (Camel Farm) is everything camels: camel milk, camel cheese, camel gelato, camel rides, camel education, camel skincare…and camel vodka! They even offer sunrise camel ride and breakfast, and sunset cocktails with the camels. Something for all the family! Bookings (online) are essential, as are closed in shoes. • Naughty Little Kids (Goat Farm) is a family run business based in Peak Crossing. They are a fantastic family event for all ages, including small children. As with the Camel farm, this one is all things goat. Farm tours are run every Sunday afternoon (1pm-5pm), where guests can pat and feed a baby goat, milk a goat by hand, watch a cheese making demonstration, learn all about goats, and taste some delicious goat gelato and cheese. You may purchase tickets online. • Sunshine and Sunflowers Farm Visit is close-by in Kalbar and is open to the public when flowers are in bloom. You are welcome to explore the endless fields of sunflowers, take photos, and pick your own flowers to take home. Food vans and coffee is typically available during visit times. Dogs on leash are welcome. Please check website for tickets/availability. • Scenic Rim Mushrooms are a local Aussie owned business who are passionate about mushrooms! My interest in this farm came about after reading of the health benefits of Mushrooms. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound found in mushrooms is said to be good for cognition/memory. The extensive range of boutique farmed mushrooms are great in a stir fry or by themselves with some garlic and butter. OPEN SAT 10am to 4pm. • Mushroom House is nearby in Dugandan. This is a small urban farm supplying gourmet mushrooms (and mushroom products including mushroom jerky) to the local Scenic Rim area. • Enjoy picnicking and water sports (with no speed limit) at Lake Moogerah, which is only 15mins away. Lake Moogerah is a large, scenic lake surrounded by parkland, mountains and walking trails and features water skiing, boating, fishing, and hiking. There is a small café/restaurant (The Dam Café) and kids’ playground overlooking the lake. • Enjoy motocross riding at QMP (Queensland moto Park) and Gap Creek, which is 30mins away. • Enjoy motor sports at Willowbank Raceway, which is 30mins away.   Meal delivery option: if you wish to just ‘bunker down’ at the property, and enjoy everything that Mountview Farmstead has to offer, there is still an amazing option which will allow you to enjoy all the local produce and products mentioned above. The Scenic Rim Farm Box delivers fully customisable farm boxes right to the door of Mountview Farmstead, so you can enjoy shopping their range of locally grown and owned farm fresh produce direct from the Scenic Rim (including dairy, fruit and veges, baked goods, meat, pantry picks and skin care. Why not also add a bottle or two from their selection of Scenic Rim beer, wines, cider, spirits and liqueurs? So how does it work? Each week the online shop is updated with that week’s selection of seasonal produce and the weekly offer goes live on a Thursday at 5pm. Shop the website before Monday 8am to make your selection, which will then be delivered to you during your nominated delivery window that same week. Deliveries are available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday). Visit their website to place an order. This list contains only places we have had the chance to experience since purchasing the property in August 2021, so there is sure to be much more for you to explore….keep us posted with your adventures, and most of all ENJOY your stay! Laslo, Amanda and family xoxo
