For those looking to explore the water, two kayaks are available exclusively for our guests to use. Launch directly from the shallow water in front of the Cottage and paddle into the serene beauty of Lettes Bay, where every stroke feels like a journey into another world. And don’t be surprised if you’re greeted by friendly ducks, who often waddle up to say hello, adding an extra touch of charm to your stay. We usually have duck feed. Feed them on the grass because they will poop on the veranda and will come into the cabin without a moment’s hesitation! Other things to note What to Know Before You Arrive • For Families and Pet Lovers: While children and pets are welcome, please note that The Cottage includes delicate antiques, original artwork, and a direct waterfront location. Supervision and care are essential to preserve the magic for everyone. • A Village of Close-Knit Charm: True to its heritage, cottages are nestled closely together. Embrace the spirit of community and respect the quiet charm of this special place. • Weather on the West Coast: West Coast Tasmania’s weather is untamed and ever-changing. Download arrival details in advance, as phone reception can be patchy, and consider travel insurance for peace of mind. • Heritage Status: Our shack was built in the 1940s for the workers of the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway company. She is heritage listed, so works on it are subject to scrutiny and approvals. As she’s old, things do go wrong from time to time. We run a monthly maintenance schedule to try and ensure she’s in tip top condition for our guests. • Insects and pests : Although we try our best, sometimes the local insects win. In particular flies. You may find a dead fly or two. That’s not because we missed them when cleaning, it’s because they’ve found a way in and have been sprayed. We are sorry!
