Welcome to Little House, a beautifully restored original one and a half story colonial in the heart of historic downtown Lancaster. Fine art, antiques, vintage finds and cutting-edge design make a stay at Little House very special. Comfort and small scale luxury abound. The garden, second floor deck and covered patio add additional charm and outdoor living space. The owner has the soul an Irish dreamer and the cleaning standards of a German house-vrouw! Please remember that Lancaster is a real city. A certain amount of urban adventure is to be expected. Guests will need to make allowances for parking and street noise. During your stay, basic, common sense security measures are strongly recommended. That being said, Little House is centrally located in one of the city's most pleasant, historic neighborhoods. Please note! The house has no television or internet. A large screen TV with a nice selection of DVDS is available. At Little House, we are bit old school! The whole house and garden will be at your disposal. I will be in the area and available on an add-needed basis. I'm a designer and local tourism professional and I'll be happy to help with dinner/breakfast/coffee/museums, outdoor activities, regional attractions, events, shopping, history etc. And I will greet you personally upon your arrival, help with parking and city issues, give you a tour of the house and make sure you are settled in comfortably! I'm happy to stock the fridge with local specialties (available at market value) and help with any little extras that will make your stay special! East Chestnut Street is steps from beautiful Musser Park, the Lancaster Museum of Art, Lancaster Central Market, The Lancaster Public Library, historic Saint James Church and Churchyard, Square One Coffee, Lancaster Sweet Shop (ice cream!) the 300 Block of North Queen Street shopping district, the Historic Fulton Opera House and a more excellent restaurants and coffee shops than you can shake a stick at! Downtown Lancaster is terrific for walking. Park your car and forget about it! I've got great walking maps with suggested routes showcasing all our city has to offer. And remember, Lancaster city is centrally located in Lancaster County, small towns and villages, beautiful scenery and outdoor adventure are within pleasant driving distance! But....... Lancaster is a city! And cities, as wonderful as they are, offer some challenges in regards to parking! So here’s some general info about parking at Little House. East Chestnut Street is one of the busiest streets in the city, offering lots of natural surveillance and excellent street lighting. There is generally street parking pretty close to Little House. In the 8 years I’ve lived at Little House, I haven’t experienced any on-street difficulties….. That being said, any time you park on the street in the city, you do face certain possibilities. Namely, theft, vandalism and vehicular accident. So do, please, take some sensible precautions: If parking on the street, lock your car doors and remove or hide any valuables. If you are visiting on a week day- Monday-Friday parking on the street is $2.00 a day, WITH A GUEST PARKING PASS! Once you book, I will send you the details required for me to arrange for your parking permit. I'm happy to handle the paperwork, you can pony-up the cash ($2.00 a day) when you check in! Saturday and Sunday, street parking infront of Little House is free..... However, in the name of all that is precious and holy- Do Not Park in the handicapped space across the street from Little House! You will receive a ticket within 20 minuses of parking in the space and the fine is $200.00!!!!! Seriously!!!! I’m not kidding!!!!!!! General city parking info- I am happy to get you a parking permit for on street parking.....$2.00 cash per day. I'll send you more info after booking....... Here is some general info about parking in the city.... Metered Parking Most of street parking in the city is Metered parking- The parking meters take quarters, 25 cents buys you twelve minutes. Some of the spaces are now part of a computerized, kiosk system that accepts cash and credit/debt cards. Annoying! But what are ya going to do!? That’s life in the big city……… Enforcement times are Monday – Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Central Business District, and Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. in other areas Street parking is generally safe and convenient...... But, just in case...... Any easy, safe option for parking near Little House- The Duke Street Garage is located on the corner of East Chestnut Street and Duke Street, just steps from Little House. The city is really good at handing out parking tickets, and parking fines generally run about $25.00.
