Millie Hut, Wild Oak Woods Eco-campsite

Wild Oak Woods Eco-campsite offers a truly back to nature experience and is a great place for wildlife watching The campsite sits in a hidden valley surrounded by hills and trees, half a mile from Sandyhills bay beach. A wood burner makes the hut snug and warm even in sub zero temperatures and you will have use of the facilities block showers and kitchen by booking a time slot. At Wild Oak Woods we are passionate about providing holidays in the most environmentally friendly way we can. The space Here at Wild Oak Woods we consider our huts not Glamping but Wamping huts. Wamping is woodland camping, it's wildlife camping, it's wet weather camping and winter camping. So not so much of the glam and more of the cosy, fun and eco-friendly adventurous camping with a chance to experience nature up close and personal. This year there will be four huts, two small self contained campervan spaces and one two person tent pitch available in the campsite.. Millie hut is a tiny insulated cabin in the middle of the camping hut field with a wood burning stove and 12 volt solar lighting. Millie hut has full size bunk beds and a double futon, a raised deck that looks out over the woodland and a private compost toilet just off the deck. Outside there is parking for one car, there are logs to sit on and a small rustic table. You can use the facilities block showers and kitchen by booking time slots and there is an outside sink and table and chairs. Throughout the pandemic hut residents can use the facilities block by booking time slots and following our Covid protocols. In the facilities block there is a camping kitchen with a small fridge, gas cooker, sink and table and chairs. Hot water is provided by solar thermal panels backed up by a wood burner boiler so the kitchen is usually a warm place even on miserable days ( please note the stove may be hot please accompany your children at all times) There are 2 showers in the facilities block one of which is wheelchair accessible. Outside the facilities block you will find a sink with hot and cold water, rubbish and recycling bins and a table and chairs. At Wild Oak Woods we really do mean eco-camp...we are off grid electric powered by solar with a backup diesel generator, all toilets on site are compost toilets, heating and water are solar or biomass fuelled, grey water is cleaned by a reed bed system before going to ground and we have a borehole water supply. In the building of the campsite we have used reuse and locally sourced materials and tradesmen where possible and the campsite development was part financed by the Scottish Government and European Leader 2014-2020. Wood fuel is produced as a biproduct of the management of the Wild Oak Woods Nature reserve a 54 acre site managed for wildlife which revenue from the campsite makes possible. So by holidaying at Wild Oak Woods you are not just getting a chance to get back to nature but you are also helping us manage a beautiful, biodiverse site and keeping your holiday carbon footprint to a minimum. Please note there are a couple of small streams on site and several ponds, there are fungi and some plants which are not edible and badgers and deer, though beautiful, are not cuddly so please keep your distance and keep an eye your children in the wood. Other things to note Please bring all the things you would take camping except the tent. ie Bedding and towels, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans and washing up bowl and a torch, there is a small fridge in the camping kitchen but a cool box is also useful Registration details APP L1U002316
