Description
The cottage is within a Kiwi and Apple Orchard with hundreds of trees spread over 4 Acres of terraced land. There is a lush green uninhabited valley below, with massive snowbound Himalayan peaks ahead on the horizon. We have Airtel wifi. There is private parking available for 2 cars. From the parking spot to the cottage, there is a gradual walk of about 90 meters. This walk is inside our orchard and not on the road. We have a caretaker and staff on the property to cook for you. The space The living space is big enough to provide modern comforts and small enough to not take away from the wilderness around it. All outside spaces have been designed to maximize North facing views of heavily forested hills and the great Himalayan snow-caps further beyond. On rainy days, sip your hot tea on the porch and take in the green lushness of the hills all around. On clear cloudless days, perch yourself on the terrace and gaze at the unique ridge lines of the 6,316 meter Bandar Poonch (Monkey's Tail) peak. Walk around the Apple, Kiwi and Walnut trees. Climb up to a high vantage point in the orchard and try to spot barking deer emerging from the thick forest valley below. At nights, sit around a bonfire on the patio, below an open, crisply starred sky. Or perhaps stay in for a while, with friends and family gathered in the living room, all bunched up over a crackling evening fire. Some of the activities to do are: Trek to Surkanda Devi: This is a gem of a trek, starting only about 1.5 km from the Orchard. It is not to be confused with the popular route taken to the temple by most pilgrims that starts a further 4 km away. This alternate back route takes you through thick forest trails and meadow like alpine clearings. It is unlikely that you will encounter anyone on this 1.5 to 2 hour climb that takes you up to 9,000 feet. Highly recommended. Explore the Kaudia Reserve Forest: Located about 3 km from the cottage is the entrance to the Kaudia Reserve Forest trail. This trail descends into the forest and makes a great excursion to spot rare birds and animals. A wonderful picnic trip that can be done on foot or through a prearranged Jeep Safari. Drive to Tehri Dam & Lake: An hours' drive away and situated on the Bhagirathi River, this is the highest large dam in India. Boating and other water adventure activities are available here. Off the beaten path trails: An easy walk-through Deodar forests or to an old Forest Service watchtower are some below the radar trips. Our caretaker knows many more! Guest access The entire cottage (bedrooms, living room, kitchen, porch, patio) Other things to note Internet: A 50 Mbps Airtel fiber connection is available. A stable and reasonable wifi signal can be accessed in all rooms. Parking: Guests have access to private parking for 2 cars. Caretaker: The place is looked after by our caretaker, 'Dambar Bahadur Oli'. His family stays on the property in a separate unit below the main cottage. Extra bed: There are two extra folding beds available. Our bedrooms are large enough to accommodate three people if needed. So the total number of adults that can be comfortably accommodated is 8. Food: We have a kitchen and staff to prepare your meals. Guests do have access to the kitchen.
